A month ago, Realme announced that it was working on a smartphone with 240W wired charging speeds. And it seems that the phone was Realme GT Neo 5 all along. We have even had hints of the phone’s charging capabilities before.
Now, Neo 5 is finally out in the world. And it is not holding back one bit in terms of boasting about its blazing-fast speeds. That said, although the amazingly fast charging speed is a key selling point, the phone is fast in other departments too.
Realme GT Neo 5: Fast Charging Beast
The battery of the GT Neo 5 is at 4600 mAh in capacity, which is not small by any means. And even with a measly battery capacity, Realme is claiming to get the phone from 1% to 100% in about 10 minutes. And most importantly, the phone gets from 1% to 50% in just four minutes!
Note that these claims start from 1%. And there’s no word regarding how much the phone will take when it starts to charge from 0%. Still, we believe that the time will be not much far off than the 9 and 1/2 minutes claim.
Now, this fast charging capability of the Realme GT Neo 5 brings a concern. That is, how fast will the battery degrade? Well, Realme states that the phone loses 20% of its effective capacity after 1600 charging cycles. And the brand confirms that it came up with that number with 240W charging in mind.
That said, Realme is offering the GT Neo 5 in two different variants. One of them is the 240W, while the other is capable of charging at 150W. The second variant has a slightly larger battery at 5000 mAh. And that phone will definitely charge slower than the 240W version.

Still, those concerned about the phone’s endurance would likely be better off with the 150W version. And even though its charging speed is considerably low on paper, it will still charge the device exceptionally fast.
What Else Should You Know About the Phone?
As hinted earlier, the Realme GT Neo 5 is fast in other departments too. It comes with a 144Hz screen. And although there’s no word on whether the screen is an OLED or an LCD, the resolution is 2772×1240 pixels. So, all the images should be crisp and well-detailed.
However, there are some lackings in the SoC department. Instead of the latest and greatest, Realme integrated the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor in the GT Neo 5. Still, the processor performance should be more than good enough for day-to-day tasks.
Camera-wise, the Realme GT Neo 5 comes with a 50MP IMX890 primary camera. An 8MP ultrawide shooter and 2MP microscope sensor accompany the main camera. You even have customizable lighting on the back. And on the front, you have a 16MP selfie shooter.
In terms of the OS, the GT Neo 5 comes with Realme UI 4.0, which is based on Android 13. And other notable features include an IR blaster and a Bluetooth 5.3 chip.
That said, the Realme GT Neo 5 is currently only available in China. For the 240W variant, you will be looking to spend 3,199 yuan (~$472) for the base model. And for the 50W option, the base model starts at 2,599 yuan (~$383).
We don’t know whether the phones will debut in the Global market. But Realme plans to launch the GT 3 globally. And that phone will also offer 240W charging speed. So, even if you can not get the GT Neo 5, you can enjoy superior fast charging with the GT 3.
