Apple Carplay: The next-gen will launch this year on 14 car brands

The arrival of a new generation of Apple Carplay is imminent. The giant announced the new CarPlay software last year. It brings a set of new features and deeper integration with the 14. Now, Apple has confirmed the first 14 car brands that will get Apple CarPlay sometime at the end of 2023. The brands include:

  • Acura,
  • Audi
  • Ford
  • Honda
  • Infiniti
  • Jaguar
  • Land Rover
  • Lincoln
  • Mercedes-Benz
  • Nissan
  • Polestar
  • Porsche
  • Renault
  • Volvo

Apple CarPlay coming with a lot of new features

One of the greatest additions of the new Apple CarPlay gen is the multi-display support. For instance, Apple CarPlay can extend beyond the main infotainment screen inside the car. Apple states that the layout and shape of the screen will be custom designed for each car. There will also be support for the instrument cluster. Apple CarPlay will allow the user to select distinct designs and layouts. Moreover, there will be unique options depending on each manufacturer. There is climate control, and also a new FM Radio, controlled by a new FM Radio app.

Apple CarPlay

Apple CarPlay will introduce widgets that give you various related information at glance. That includes fuel economy, trip duration, distance traveled, calendar events, weather, phone calls, and more. The Climate Control allows you to access your vehicle’s climate controls directly within the new version of CarPlay. It will allow you to adjust the temperature of the A/C or heat, fan speed, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and other options.

As for the instrument cluster integration, the new Apple CarPlay will provide integration with the vehicle’s instrument cluster. For instance, it will read and show the speedometer, tachometer, odometer, fuel gauge, engine temperature, and more.

For now, there is no word on the release date of the new CarPlay generation. But we expect more details to appear soon. Apple may disclose more details at one of its next events, or perhaps, the WWDC 2023.
