Qualcomm today took the wraps off its new Snapdragon X72 and Snapdragon X75 modems. The first is a new modem for mobile smartphones, whereas the latter is a modem for vehicles, PCs, and Industrial IoT. Both are ready to support 5G Advanced and also open the road for Wi-Fi 7. We may still be seeing devices with Wi-Fi 6 and 6e, and in fact, this is yet to penetrate into the mid-range segment. However, Qualcomm is already preparing for the imminent debut of Wi-Fi 7 devices. With the new modem, we may see more Wi-Fi 7 smartphones coming later this year.

The two modems come with 10-carrier aggregation, and in theory, offer 10 Gbps downlink in both Wi-Fi 7 and 5G. The latest 6th-gen modem-to-antenna solution uses a new architecture and brings an all-new QTM565 mmWave antenna module. It comes to reducing the cost, reduce hardware footprint, and board complexity. Also, Qualcomm is keen that the new modems will offer much better consumption. There is a new 5G PowerSave Gen 4 and RF Power Efficiency Suite to keep things stable, and reduce battery consumption.
