The soon-to-be-released AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX will be the flagship mobile CPU from team red this year. Now, even though we donāt have a launch date yet, the CPU was just spotted in the benchmarks. And from what the numbers show, AMD might be extremely competitive in gaming laptops this year.
From what the numbers show, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX has outpaced the last-gen equivalents by miles. And the most interesting fact is that it has managed to beat the currently best processors of Intel. That, too, with having far fewer cores than the competition.
AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX Takes the Lead
The Zen 4 lineup of mobile CPUs was originally announced at CES 2023 show. And although the announcement was very recent, it seems like the CPU is starting to appear in laptops. First, we saw the benchmark scores of the Ryzen 9 7845HX. And now, we got the benchmark scores of the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX.
So, what does the benchmark actually show? Well, the numbers come from Geekbench 5. But getting to that, letās talk about the specs. The CPU that is in the highlight belongs to the gamer-oriented lineup, which goes by āDragon Range.ā This AMD flagship chip comes with 16 cores and features 32 threads.
When it comes to clock speed, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX can hit 5.4GHz at 55 watts. But we expect to see it go higher when the chip is utilizing its full TDP, which is 75 watts.
Compared to the previous-gen, the new Ryzen 9 7945HX sees double the core count. That is, the top-of-the-line AMD mobile chip from last year came with 8 cores and packed 16 threads.
Benchmark Scores
The laptop the Geekbench 5 listing shows is Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16. And in case you didnāt know, the Zephyrus Duo lineup consists of state of the earth laptops with dual screens. However, we donāt actually know what GPU the laptop was utilizing. But judging from the previous trends, Asus has likely integrated one of the top-ranked GPUs from Nvidia. The laptop also appears to have 32GB of DDR5 RAM.
With that said, the laptop with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX got 2217 points in the single-core test and 19403 in the multi-core tests. These scores not only make the laptop get to the topmost positions of the leaderboard among laptops but also among desktop CPUs. Yes, AMD is taking on the best desktop CPUs with the 7945HX.
Nonetheless, with such scores, the AMD 7945HX is currently the best mobile chip in terms of single-core performance. And the great part is that it is not that far behind the Intel i9 13980HX in terms of multi-core tests.
The average score is a bit on the lower end, however. So, if you consider that, Intel will actually be the winner. However, the lead between the Intel chip and the AMD 7945HX is not that much.
It is also very interesting to see how the new chip is closing on the desktop Ryzen 9 7900X in single-core. In fact, it is almost keeping up with the 7950X. And you canāt forget that there is a massive difference in terms of TDP.
We are talking about 55 watts vs. 170 watts. So, in short, the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX is actually doing amazing in these benchmarks. And we can not wait for the laptops with these chips to finally be released in the wild.
