The Mobile World Congress 2023 is knocking on the doors with a set of novelties to introduce. This year will be important since we have the return of many brands, and most are set to make great releases at the event. Among them, we have Honor which has chosen MWC 2023 to release a lot of important devices for the international market. The Chinese brand is all set to introduce new flagships under the Honor Magic5 Pro series and will launch its Honor Magic Vs foldable globally. The latter will be a tough competitor for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 which has been taking advantage of the lack of competitors.
Below, we’ll list everything we expect to see at the Honor’s “Unleash the Power of Magic” event. Most of the Honor Magic Vs details are well-known, but for the Honor Magic5 series, the company managed to keep most of its details a secret. Honor MWC 2023 – How to Watch
The Honor MWC 2023 event will happen on February 27th. It will begin at 1:30 PM CET / 7:30 AM EST / 4:30 AM PST / 6:00 PM IST. Of course, you’ll be able to see the event through YouTube. Honor already set up a landing page on its official website. There, we can find the YouTube video that will begin at the mentioned times. The video is also embedded below, so you can save the link or perhaps add it to the “watch later”.
Honor Magic5 and Honor Magic5 Pro
The new Honor Magic5 flagships are expected as the greatest stars of the show. Obviously, the Honor Magic Vs will also get the spotlight, but the new flagships may steal the attention of flagship enthusiasts. These devices are set to compete against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series.
They are pretty important for Honor since this is the biggest move of the brand on international markets since its “independence”.
Record-breaking camera
So far, not many details have leaked for the devices apart from a few teasers. We know that they will bring flagship specifications and capable cameras. For instance, the Honor Magic5 Pro is rumored to bring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with up to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of Internal Storage. In terms of optics, the phone is rumored to bring a 50 MP main camera, and a telephoto shooter for “super-zoom” capabilities. We also expect it to bring a set of features to improve photography and recording. In fact, the phone will bring a feature capable of quickly capturing motion scenes. Thanks to this camera, it was possible to record/capture the latest record-breaking moment in the Guinness book. And you can check all the details here.
Through a series of teaser videos, Honor disclosed some details about the phones. For instance, the leaks point to a 6.8-inch 120 Hz LTPO display, 3D face unlocks, and good low-light camera performance.
The exact differences between, the Honor Magic 5 and Honor Magic5 Pro are unclear. However, we expect the Pro variant to take the lead in features and specs. After all, it’s coming to compete against the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Worth noting, that there is an Honor Magic5 Lite already. It’s a mid-range phone with some of the best battery backups on the market, and you can find more details about the device here.
Gizchina News of the week
Honor Magic Vs
The Honor Magic Vs is not exactly new for those addicted to smartphone news. However, this is the first time that global customers will get an official chance to taste the new phone. The MWC 2023 marks the phone’s debut on international markets. The new foldable will come to compete against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 which so far has been the only foldable of its kind with global availability. Samsung’s life will become tough as global consumers will have one more alternative.
An arguably better hinge
The Honor Magic Vs has one clear advantage over the Z Fold4 – the crease is almost non-existent. There is an advanced technology behind that hinge, that allows the phone to have almost zero creases when in its “folded” state. It’s also durable, and the folks at JerryRigEverything certainly agree.
Gorgeous displays, capable cameras, and fast-charging
In terms of hardware, the foldable will not disappoint. It packs a huge 7.9-inch foldable OLED screen. It brings a 2,272 x 1,984 pixels resolution, 90 Hz refresh rate, HDR 10+ support, and 800 nits brightness. The phone also has a huge 6.45-inch outer display. It brings a 2,560 x 1,080 pixels resolution, 1200 nits of brightness, and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Interestingly, the disassembly video revealed that both displays are totally independent. So if you damage the internal display, the outer panel will still work without any issues.
Under the hood, the Honor Magic Vs packs the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU. There are variants with 8GB/12GB RAM and 256GB/512GB of Internal Storage. In terms of optics, the phone has a main 54 MP f/1.9 camera with PDAF, an 8 MP telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom, and OIS, and finally, a 50 MP ultrawide shooter with auto-focus. There is also a punch-hole selfie with 16 MP resolution.
MagicOS 7.1
So far, Honor did not tease MagicOS 7 for global markets. However, we have high expectations to see it during the MWC event. The Honor Magic Vs runs MagicOS 7 based on Android 12 in China. However, the rumors point to an international release with Android 13 and MagicOS 7.1. We don’t think that Honor will miss the opportunity to launch an Android 13 version of its skin on international markets. After all, most international customers really care about Android updates.
The Honor Magic5 and Honor Magic5 Pro will likely run Android 13 straight out of the box. Hopefully, the company will also disclose details about its plans for updating these flagships. Samsung, for comparison, is offering four major updates for some of its flagships. So this is something that newcomers need to overcome.
Conclusion
The expectations are high for the Honor MWC 2023 event. The company has big products to unleash and they may pose a threat to international brands. Some believe that Honor, with the right decisions, can occupy the place that Huawei had in international markets. We are curious to see if the MWC event will be the beginning of a new push to international markets.
