Honor

Earlier today, we had Honor’s big event at the MWC 2023 in Barcelona. During its keynote, Honor introduced the all-new Honor Magic5 flagship smartphone series. The Honor Magic5 and Magic5 Pro bring the SD8 Gen 2 and advanced cameras. The brand also revealed the Magic Vs to global markets. As a last-minute launch, CEO George Zhao took to the stage to reveal the company’s latest advancement – the world’s first silicon-carbon battery.

Honor Silicon-Carbon better promises a 12.8% improvement

We have seen significant improvements in the hardware of mobile devices. However, batteries have not evolved, despite their size increase over the years. Today, we have bigger batteries, dual-cell batteries that are designed to withstand fast charging and deliver capacity. Regardless of the kind, most of them are based on the same old lithium technology. Now, Honor comes with a new tech that can change phones for good.

Honor’s new battery tech promises 12.8% higher energy density compared to current lithium batteries. Earlier today, Honor revealed that the Honor Magic 5 Pro has a 5,100 mAh capacity. With the new tech, it would have had 5,450 mAh. As per the keynote, the new battery has more when its voltage reaches 3.5V than regular Li-On batteries. In fact, it offers about 240% more juice in this state. This means an increase of 12.8% in the phone’s total juice.

It seems that Honor will launch the new tech in its home country. While the global Magic5 Pro has the regular 5,100 mAh battery, the variant is listed with a 5,450 mAh capacity in China. Perhaps it will serve as a test. Future global phones from the brand may bring new tech.

It’s good to see brands exploring new things, because that may be the future. Remember when Oppo showed the first fast-charging phone? Today, everyone needs fast charging. Let’s see if the silicon carbon battery will start a revolution and if other brands will follow.
