The New Xiaomi AR Smart Glasses Will Redefine the Future

MWC 2023 is on full fledge. And in case you didn’t know what Mobile World Congress is, it is basically a trade show. But for MWC, it is mainly for mobile enthusiasts. In other words, it is the place where a product, concept, or prototype gets a lot of attention. And along with debuting the 13 series globally, Xiaomi took to this opportunity to showcase its latest project.

However, it is unlike any other prototype you might have seen in different events before. Instead, Xiaomi surprised the fans with a pair of augmented reality glasses. And the thing that makes this concept so amazing is that it utilizes much more advanced technology than any other currently available AR glasses.

The Hardware of Xiaomi Wireless AR Smart Glass Explorer Edition

So, the pair of advanced AR glasses are going by “Xiaomi Wireless AR Smart Glass Explorer Edition.” And when it comes to the hardware, the first thing that stands out is the housing. It looks like the oversized Terminator sunglasses.

Nonetheless, the front of the new Xiaomi AR glasses comes with a pair of Micro-OLED screens. These panels can offer FHD visuals and can go up to 1200 nits of brightness. The AR Smart Glass also comes with three forward-facing cameras, which map the environment directly in front of the user.

Now, even though the new Xiaomi Wireless AR Smart Glass comes with cutting-edge components and a large frame, it is fairly lightweight. The overall weight is just 126 grams. And this means that users will be able to wear it for a prolonged time without facing any discomfort.

So, what powers the AR glass? Well, Xiaomi has opted for Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 chipset. There is no onboard storage, which means it needs to be connected to a host device. But all this hardware is not what separates AR smart glass from the competition. Instead, the functionality of the AR glass is the main highlight.

Gizchina News of the week

What Can the AR Smart Glass Do?

As the name suggests, the brand-new Xiaomi AR is completely wireless. It connects to a device through a “proprietary low-latency communication link.” And what the Chinese brand suggests is that it can offer a latency of just 50ms, which is so fast that you will not be able to notice any lag.

The internal hardware, combined with a low-latency connection, can make the Xiaomi AR glass offer an experience that will be truly out of this world. Now, to compare, most of the competing AR glasses utilize a cable connection. For example, the TCL Nextwear S requires a wired connection to work. And the connected wire can surely get in the way.

Other than that, at its most basic form, the new Xiaomi smart glasses can do pretty much everything that the nReal Air excels in. That is, it will offer you a wearable screen that will be directly on your face all the time.

But the thing is, you can use the Xiaomi glasses to do more than just watch videos. The glass has many AR applications ready. And the greatest thing about them is that they are far more advanced than the competition.

One can even offer you an interactive virtual desktop that can let you keep multiple windows open simultaneously. And for the mapping technology, you can control every aspect of the windows, which includes moving them around, resizing them, and closing them.

Xiaomi AR Demo

Like that AR app, Xiaomi has showcased two more demos at the MWC 2023 event. All of them can offer you a sense of realism that the competition is still working to catch up on. Overall, although the AR glasses are at a prototype stage, it feels ready to use. And we can’t wait for it the commercial units to hit the market.
