Redmi A2 and A2+ global launch seems imminent

Redmi A2

Xiaomi certainly has a bold presence in the flagship market nowadays, but it’s that entry-level segment that started it all. Devices under the Redmi series put the company into the history of mobile devices. For that reason, it is always honoring this legacy with new budget phones that have appealing prices and decent specs. A few months back, the brand introduced the Redmi A1 and A1+. These were super-budget devices with compelling specifications and affordable prices. Now, Xiaomi seems to be planning for the launch of the second generation. The Redmi A2 and A2+ have passed NBTC and TUV certification, hinting at an imminent launch.

Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ specs tipped

The Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ have just been spotted on the NBTC website. The former carries model number 23028RN4DG, and the latter with 23028RNCAG model number. These two phones were also spotted at the TUV certification, while the Redmi A2+ also got the EEC certification. These three certification bodies are not the most revealing in the world, but at least, they clearly indicate the Redmi A2 series is going global soon. Worth noting that these two devices have also passed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), so it’s just a matter of time until they hit the global markets.

Gizchina News of the week

As per the leaks, the Redmi A2 is gearing up to be just an incremental upgrade over the Redmi A1. It will pick the recently-released (but that does not mean interesting) MediaTek Helio G36 CPU. Of course, it shouldn’t be a problem considering the pricing point of the phone. The A2+ should not be much different from the vanilla, with the fingerprint scanner being the biggest addition.

Redmi A2

The Redmi A2 will feature a 6.52-inch IPS LCD screen with an HD+ resolution. It will come with a dual-camera setup with an 8 MP primary snapper and a 2 MP depth sensor. For selfies and video calls, we expect it to pack a 5 MP snapper. The handset will bring a 5,000 mAh battery with a micro USB charging port. Yeah, unfortunately, Xiaomi is not adding the USB Type-C standard for this super-budget phone. Thankfully this kind of practice won’t last much longer as new rules will force makers to ship USB Type-C ports. Anyway, that’s not the topic here.

We expect the brand to begin with the teaser campaign for the Redmi A2 series in the next few weeks. Considering all the leaks, they will likely hit the global markets.
