The mobile phone industry is quite complex and only the smart and tough brands survive. To capture the heart of mobile phone users, brands have to release devices with the best available tech. Not only that, they also have to take care of these devices for years. The system upgrade that occurs after mobile phone releases is a morality test for mobile phone brands. For those who know about mobile phones, the absence of system upgrades is a major turnoff. Samsung has offered updates to Android users for the past four years. Now that OnePlus has taken the stage, it has pledged that its mobile phones would support four major Android upgrades. That’s not all, the company will also release security upgrades to its mobile phones for five years.

OnePlus phones will get good updates

Since all of OnePlus’ current mobile devices run Android 13, this implies that OnePlus devices can utilize the future Android 17 Android skin. Users of the OnePlus 11, OnePlus Ace2, and OnePlus Ace 2V will benefit from what may be the longest software version maintenance update in the industry, says OnePlus executive, Li Jie.

Among these, the OnePlus 11 will get five years of security updates (up to 2028) and four years of major Android version upgrades (up to 2027).  The OnePlus Ace 2 and OnePlus Ace 2V will also enjoy the same update as the OnePlus 11. Other OnePlus mobile phones like the OnePlus 10 Pro, OnePlus Ace Pro, OnePlus Ace, and OnePlus Ace Racing Edition which were released before the pronouncement from OnePlus will also benefit. However, they will get updates based on their release date. For instance, the OnePlus 10 Pro which was released last year will get major updates up to 2026.

Although it may seem like a simple option, OnePlus said that it will require an investment of more than 100 million yuan in R&D. However, it will be worth it because users will not feel the need to replace their mobile phones every year.
