Resident Evil 4 Remake, Should You Stick to PS4 or Upgrade to PS5?

The Japanese video game company, Capcom has just released a demo version of Resident Evil 4 Remake. Since debuting in 1996, Resident Evil has become one of the most successful projects of Capcom. Ahead of the official launch date which is set to 24th of March 2023, the Japanese video game maker has released the demo version to all supported platforms.

The Resident Evil 4 Remake will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series and PC. The Xbox One is left behind for the Remake edition this time around. So, you may have to upgrade your old Xbox if you want to enjoy the new edition of the legendary Resident Evil game.

Owners of the old Xbox One are not getting the new remake edition but PS4 owners have been lucky enough. However, the PS5 comes with advanced specifications than its predecessor. How will the difference in specs affect the overall game play and visual quality of the Resident Evil 4 Remake? Let’s find out the difference.

Difference in Resident Evil 4 Remake Gameplay on PS4 and PS5

Checking from the overall game performance and visual quality, the PS4 surprising did a great job than expected. The gaming graphics and game performance on the PS4 is truly on par with that of the PS5.

In a side-by-side video, you could see that the PS4 version runs just like that of the PS5. There may be some differences though, but these differences are very hard to notice. You can only detect the difference if you watch both consoles play the game side-by-side. Taking a closer look, you will notice that the PS5 version has a higher resolution texture, better shadow quality and better overall performance than the PS4.

Other effects such as depth of field and motion blur also run at better quality on the PS5 version than the PS4 version. Also, comparing the checkboard 4k resolution on the PS4 to the PS5, you will notice that the resolution on the PS5 is improved overall.

Another thing you could notice on the PS4 is that the game runs on 30fps in resolution mode and 60fps in performance mode. The PS5 still handles performance mode in dynamic 4k resolution while the PS4 handles it at 1080p which is quite a gap.

On the PS5, Xbox and PC version, you can enable ray-tracing in the resolution mode with an extra option to toggle-on better hair rendering as well. Another obvious change you may notice has to do with the quality of the environment. The quality of the fog and other environmental effects are less on the PS4. This makes the PS4 version of the Resident Evil 4 Remake lose some atmospheric quality.

The PS5 version also comes with an exclusive support for PSVR 2. This comes with support for haptic feedbacks like when Leon takes a walk on a bridge. It also comes with Adaptive triggers that work in actions such as aiming and shooting weapon.

Is the Resident Evil 4 Remake on the PS5 Better than the PS4?

To be honest, the Resident Evil 4 Remake performs great on both the PS4 and PS5 in the most important scenarios. As I stated earlier, it is difficult to tell the difference unless you compare them side-by-side. Some environmental effects may look better on the PS5 but that does not mean they are completely unavailable on the PS4 version.

Upgrading from PS4 to PS5 mainly because of this game is not an advisable decision to make. Unless you want to immerse yourself in the experience of enjoying the game on the PSVR 2. The support for PSVR 2 is exclusive only to the PS5 which should truly be the main difference here. Apart from this, the PS4 handles the Resident Evil 4 Remake very well.
