For many quarters, the top five mobile phone brands in terms of shipments rotate around Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Apple and Samsung. In recent times, there has been a continuous decline in the mobile phone market. However, despite the decline, some brands seem to be affected. One such brand is Apple. Despite the decline in the mobile phone market, it somehow finds a way to sit at the top.
The global mobile phone market declined by 19% year over year to 302.6 million devices in the fourth quarter of 2022. This is according to the latest statistics from the market research firm, Counterpoint.Ā Apple defied the trend in the fourth quarter of 2022, with shipments rising by 42%. Thanks to the great performance of the iPhone 14 series.Ā As a result, Apple overtook Samsung as the leading mobile phone brand globally, capturing a 23% market share.Ā But, Appleās main period is the fourth quarter of every year. The launch of four new iPhones will surely have a major effect on the market.

Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Honor follow
Samsung’s shipments fell by 16% annually and 9% quarterly to 58.3 million, making up just 15% of the quarter.Ā It is followed by Xiaomi, the first Chinese brand and third-placed company with a market share of 11%.Ā The next three, OPPO, Vivo, and Honor, are also Chinese producers.
Apart from Apple, OPPO is the only one of them to have grown month over month. It has also seen a 4% spike, albeit it’s not quite as alarming as Apple.
However, it should be noted that in 2022, annual shipments of mobileĀ phones would fall by 12% to 1.2 billion devices, the smallest number since 2013.Ā From this vantage point, the mobile phone sector continues to have a pressing cold winter dilemma.
