Apple will officially launch the iPhone 15 series this fall. From the reports so far, the entire series will come with the Smart Island feature. Recall that only the Pro models of the iPhone 14 series use this feature. Popular Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo has now claimed that it is official. His latest report claims that Apple has officially confirmed that all the models in the iPhone 15 series will support Smart Island.
However, the iPhone 15 Smart Island feature will come with a couple of changes. The distance sensor on the iPhone 14 Pro is fixed beneath the screen, outside of the Smart Island. But it is integrated inside the Smart Island on the iPhone 15 series. The opening area of the Smart Island will remain the same in size as a result of this alteration. The epitaxial wafer for the distance sensor has been switched from Lianya to IQE. The latter is the sole supplier, Ming-Chi Kuo noted.

Also, the wavelength of the new sensor, code-named Sphinx, has been changed from the 1380nm of the previous generation to 940nm, which offers significant performance benefits. Although the iPhone 15/15 Plus will use the Smart Island feature, they will still not support the always-on display and a 120Hz ProMotion high refresh rate.
iPhone 15 series to support fast charging
By utilizing USB Type-C and doing away with the Lightning port, Apple is expected to deliver faster charging on the iPhone 15 series. For iPhone owners who have been waiting for higher charging speeds, this is fantastic news. Apple intends to provide faster charging on the iPhone 15 according to a number of rumours. While the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max may reach up to 27W, the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus do not get above 20W. Even at 27W, the Pro models take roughly 30 minutes to recharge 50% of the battery. This is quite frustrating for users that love fast charging.
