The next big camera phone is on its way. It is all set to launch on April 18th. But days before the Xiaomi 13 Ultra officially launches, we are presented with the camera samples of the phone. And from these pictures alone, there’s no doubt that Xiaomi is declaring war against some of the best camera phones out there.
That includes the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, iPhone 14 Pro, and, most importantly, the Google Pixel 7 Pro. It seems that the biggest advantage that Xiaomi 13 Ultra has is in terms of the camera. But it is not just the hardware that’s making the phone make big leaps. In addition, the phone appears to excel in taking natural-looking shots. So, there’s definitely some software magic going on.
Xiaomi 13 Ultra vs the Competition
As mentioned earlier, the pictures from the Xiaomi 13 Ultra appear to have a soft and natural look to them. On the other hand, the competitor phones, in comparison, over-sharpen their pictures, making the images make a wild transition from being natural looking.
Maybe, the natural-looking results come from the Leica collaboration. The iconic camera maker might have done a great job in finely tuning the colors of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. But how big is the difference when it comes to the colors? Well, in short, the pictures from iPhone 14 Pro and Galaxy S23 Ultra will seem overly saturated in comparison.
As you can see, the first picture of the tree has a very natural look to it. But yes, this also means that the photo is far less striking than the images taken by the competitors. However, the picture from Xiaomi 13 Ultra does not have over-sharpening or wild colors as the competitors.
From the set of pictures above, it’s quite clear that artificial sharpening does not improve the level of detail. Without any type of aggressive sharpening, the picture from the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is cleaner and has loads of details in it.
Lastly, you will be able to gauge the natural color retaining of the phone through the images above. As always, the first picture is from the 13 Ultra. It’s quite evident that the picture has a ton of detail, has a realistic look to it, and features a natural yet beautiful color profile.
More Xiaomi 13 Ultra Sample Photos
The team at Xiaomi has shared more photos than the ones shared above. And as you can tell, Xiaomi wants to showcase how good the camera system of the 13 Ultra is. Another quite clear thing is that Xiaomi has gone for something different regarding picture processing. These photos do not look like the ones we are used to seeing.
Among the highlights, the one thing that stands out from these Xiaomi 13 Ultra photo samples is that the colors are very realistic. To be exact, the colors seem to be almost cinematic, but in a good way.
Gizchina News of the week
The Xiaomi team has also shared images captured with the zoom cameras to show off the zoom abilities of the phone. And as you can see, the sensors will be quite handy even in darker environments.
What’s So Special About the Camera System
There’s no denying that Xiaomi made a pretty brave decision when it came to deciding on the camera department of the 13 Ultra. After all, we are in a world where smartphone cameras are dominated by Apple iPhones and Samsung Galaxy devices with a ”digital look.’
So, it indeed takes some guts to stand out from the rest and offer something that might not look appealing at first glance. Something that definitely has a more technical and artistic quality to it.
Of course, all the pictures shared above comes from the Xiaomi team. We are yet to see how 13 Ultra will perform in real-life scenarios when it comes out on April 18th.
But, thanks to the previous leaks, we already know the main specs of the camera system. Take a look:
- 50MP Wide — Sony IMX 989
- 50MP 3.2X Zoom, 75mm with f/1.8 aperture
- 50MP Ultra-wide
- 50MP 5X Zoom (Periscope), 120mm with f/3.0 aperture
- 32MP Front cam
Here, the Sony IMX989 of the 13 Ultra is a 1-inch sensor with variable aperture. And yes, it is the same sensor that was present in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra and Xiaomi 13 Pro flagships. But even though it is not a new sensor, the good news is that Xiaomi had a long time to optimize the sensor.
That is probably why we saw such amazing results from the camera samples. Xiaomi 13 Ultra also has a major advantage by having two telephoto cameras. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the only other mainstream phone with such a camera setup.
But yes, the pumped-up camera specs of the phone mean a reasonably large bump on the back. And that is pretty much confirmed with the last Xiaomi 13 Ultra leak. Also, the phone is likely to be in the high-end category when it comes to the price, which this leak has already confirmed.
