Xiaomi held a big event today to announce a set of new products. After the great reveal of the Xiaomi 13 series in December last year, the brand announced today the king of the lineup – the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. While this photography-centric flagship was the center of the stage, the company also revealed other products. We saw the launch of the Xiaomi Band 8, and the unveiling of the new Xiaomi Pad 6 series. After months of leaks and rumors, the new slates are finally here to succeed the Pad 5 series. They bring iterative upgrades in certain aspects, new designs, and improved displays. The Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro is a big upgrade over its predecessor.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 and Pro have in common the same 11-inch IPS LCD screen with 2,880 x 1,800 pixels of resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The Pad 6 keeps the 120 Hz refresh rate of its predecessor, whereas the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro brings a smoother 144 Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, both tablets bring performance upgrades. The Xiaomi Pad 6 brings the Snapdragon 870 which is a decent upgrade over the Snapdragon 860 inside the Xiaomi Pad 5. The jump is even more significant with the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro. The higher model brings the last year’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This is still one of the best CPUs in the market and is still making rounds in 2023. The Pad 6 has up to 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB of Storage, whereas the Pro has up to 12 GB with 512 GB.

In terms of optics, the Pad 6 Pro has a 50 MP main camera on the back and a 20 MP selfie shooter. The selfie camera supports auto-tracking to follow you during video calls. The Xiaomi Pad 6 has a 13 MP rear sensor and an 8 MP front-facing camera. The device has Quad Speaker setups with Dolby Atmos.

Both slates run Android 13 with MIUI Pad 14. The vanilla packs an 8,840 mAh battery with just 33W charging, whereas the Pro has a smaller 8,600 mAh battery but with twice the charging at 67W. The company also announced a new keyboard case to make the experience more immersive. There is a second-generation smart pen accessory with lower input latency and longer battery life.

Pricing and Availability

The Xiaomi Pad 6 and 6 Pro sell in Black, Blue, and Champagne Gold colors. The Pad 6 starts at CNY 1,999 ($291) for the base model with 6GB/128GB. There is also a mid variant with 8GB/128 GB that sells for $305, while the 8GB/256GB model will sell for CNY 2,399 ($349). The Pro sells at CNY 2,699 ($392) for 8GB/256GB. The higher model with 12GB/512GB will sell for CNY 3,299 ($480). Considering the specifications, this is not a bad price.
