Among the devices on the list, the Huawei P20/Mate 10 series were pretty decent flagships at the time they hit the market. These devices hit the market in 2017 and 2018, respectively, and launched with Kirin 970 processors. They were milestones for Huawei to gain a firm foothold in the high-end market. Especially after the Mate 10 series with a top overall texture, design, and performance. With these devices, Huawei was able to go head-on with the likes of Apple and Samsung. Thanks to Huawei’s optimization, after upgrading Harmony OS 3, the experience of these Kirin veterans will be further improved.
In terms of overall progress, Huawei is doing pretty well with the upgrade list. As of now, a total of 101 devices have entered the upgrade stage of the official version of Harmony OS 3. In addition, there are 39 devices in the public beta stage.
Harmony OS 3
Harmony OS 3 is the latest version of Huawei‘s distributed OS, designed to connect and coordinate multiple smart devices on the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. It was launched in June 2021 and has since been adopted by a growing number of Huawei devices. This includes mobile phones, tabs, watches and multiple smart home devices. Huawei’s Harmony OS appears to be a third – force in the OS market behind Android and iOS. However, this system has its only issues.
Distributed architecture
One of the key features of Harmony OS 3 is its distributed architecture. This allows devices to work together easily and share resources. This means that users can control many devices with a single interface. These linked devices can share info with each other to perform complex tasks. For example, a user can use their mobile phone to control their smart home devices. Smart devices such as lights, air conditioners, and security cameras can be controlled from the mobile phone. They can also send notifications from these devices to watches and other portable devices.
UI
Another decent feature of Harmony OS 3 is its user interface. The UI of this new system from Huawei is based largely on the Android EMUI UI but contains some more features. The UI is designed to be custom and easy to use. It has support for widgets, cards, and stacks. Apps and services can provide cards, which can be displayed as widgets with different sizes and shapes to adapt to the home screen layout. The UI font of Harmony OS is Harmony OS Sans, which is designed to be easy to read, unique, and universal.

Security and Privacy
Harmony OS 3 also includes a number of security features to protect user data and privacy. For example, it uses a microkernel architecture, which isolates different parts of the OS and prevents malicious code from spreading. It also includes a trusted execution environment (TEE). This provides a secure environment for sensitive operations, such as mobile payments and biometric authentication.
Issues with Huawei Harmony System
Despite the good aspects of the pretty new system from Huawei, it has its own issues. One of the biggest issues is the lack of support from major app developers, such as Google and Facebook. This means that users may not be able to access some of their favorite apps on Huawei devices running Harmony OS 3. Huawei has tried to address this issue by developing its own app store, called AppGallery. The company is also doing all it can to attract app creators to develop apps for the Harmony system. However, it remains to be seen whether this strategy will be a success in the long term.
US Vs China
Another issue for Harmony OS 3 is the ongoing trade war between the United States and China. Huawei has been caught in the middle of this conflict, with the US govt imposing bans on the company and restricting its access to key techs, such as semiconductors. This has made it difficult for Huawei to develop and produce its devices and has also limited its ability to market them in the US and other countries.
Despite these issues, Harmony OS 3 represents a huge step forward for Huawei and the IoT ecosystem. Its distributed architecture and custom user interface make it a powerful tool for controlling and coordinating multiple devices. Also, its security features provide peace of mind for users. As Huawei continues to develop and refine Harmony OS, it will be interesting to see how it evolves and adapts to the changing needs of the IoT ecosystem.
