One UI 6.0: Here is When to Expect the Latest Software on Your Samsung Smartphone

When a manufacturer releases new software, distribution strategy is a critical and challenging task. Manufacturers typically distribute updates in a specific order. They usually start with their premium devices and then gradually rolling out to mid-range and entry-level devices. With Samsung’s upcoming One UI 6, it’s no different. Let’s take a closer look at what we know so far.

One UI 6 will be based on Android 14 and will be layered on top of all Android 14-supported Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Previously, it used to take Samsung around six months from the arrival of the latest Android version to launch the new version of One UI, but things have changed. Samsung has become faster in terms of software update distribution.

Samsung One UI 6.0 will Arrive in August Samsung One UI 6

According to Google, Android 14 will only be available for AOSP (Android Open-Source Project) after its stable version is released. First, the Android version will reach the platform stability landmark (sometime in July). From there, manufacturers will have the opportunity to build their respective UIs or skins. For Samsung, the next-gen One UI Beta will arrive in August. Followed by Beta 2/Beta 3 and a stable version within two months.

Now the real question is, in what order will eligible Galaxy devices receive this new UI update? Although there is no official confirmation or criteria to determine this order, we can get an idea from previous distribution programs. Let’s explore the order.

Gizchina News of the week

If we look at Samsung’s previous update programs, the latest flagship device at that time is the first to receive any software novelty. After that the latest foldable devices follow. Older flagship and foldable smartphones are later included in the list. However, it is almost impossible for any other Galaxy devices to run One UI 6.0 out of the box. That Galaxy S24 will be the phone to have that privilege.

Here’s the expected order of premium Galaxy devices to receive the upcoming software update:

1. Galaxy S23/S23+/S23 Ultra (First milestone for One UI 6.0)
2. Galaxy Z Fold 5/Flip 5 (Second milestone for One UI 6.0)
3. Galaxy Tab S9/S9+/S9 Ultra (Maybe on third)

After these premium phones, mid-range devices will follow suit. Here’s an expected list:

1. Galaxy S22/S22+/S22 Ultra
2. Galaxy Z Fold4/Flip 4
3. Galaxy S21/S21+/S21 Ultra
4. Galaxy Z Fold3/Flip 3
5. Galaxy Tab S8/S8+/S8 Ultra

Finally, the rest of the eligible Galaxy devices will receive the update. At the moment, we can’t be certain of the order. However, it like Samsung will follow a similar distribution strategy to previous programs. Therefore, based on when you received the One UI 5.0, expect to receive the One UI 6 around the same period.

Another factor to consider is the model of your device and how old it is. This is because on the supported devices list, the oldest models will always receive the update last. So, if your device is quite new and a high-end model, you will like be part of the first batch. Old device owners who qualify might want to wait a bit longer.
