While Google will hold its I/O next month with much exciting news for Android and the Pixel lineup, Apple enthusiasts will have to wait until June. The giant will finally disclose the iOS 17 in all its glory with a set of new features, and some drastic changes in the ecosystem. Since the announcement draws near, it’s natural to see more and more leaks popping out. While WWDC has more to cover than just iOS, we expect the iPhone Operating System to steal the spotlight. The new version will bring some changes and a set of new interesting features.
New interesting features have been tipped
Today, a set of new details (via XDA-Developers) arrived from Setsuna Digital. Take this with a pinch or two of salt. The source is not well known for a good track record when it comes to sharing info. However, the trusted folks at 9to5Mac state that they’ve correctly leaked the yellow iPhone 14. Of course, the features listed in this leak can be slightly different in their final form. So have that in mind.
As per the leak, while we can expect drastic changes for some, there will also be ones that are less… “buzzing”. For instance, there will be changes to the flashlight toggle and more granular control over its brightness. Further, the new version will give users more options for the Lock Screen. Apple will further enhance its new Customizable Lockscreen with different font sizes, emoji wallpaper, and more. There will also be a new option to share custom Lock Screen configurations. Is this the rise of a new community of custom Lock screens and Theming? This is a first for iOS users.
Apple Music will also go through some changes. The app will move aware from text and will lean more on graphics to convey what’s being shown on screen. Also, the app may also bring support for lyrics that will pop out on the new Lock Screen. One neat addition is the ability to further customize the App Library. These can be some neat improvements for all users.
Is iOS 17 a big update? Time will tell
This report sounds a bit sad for those waiting for iOS 17 to be a big update. Of course, we can’t discard this possibility just yet. But it indicates that Apple has changed the release a bit due to the launch of its mixed-reality headset. Of course, we have all the ongoing rumors pointing to Apple’s allowing users to sideload apps on the system. Something similar to what happens on Android since… always. Further, the EU’s pressure on Apple may also require the giant to allow third-party stores to operate in its ecosystem. Right now, we don’t know if Apple will comply with these changes with iOS 17. However, there is always a possibility that this feature will be exclusive to Europe.
Another possible change coming with iOS 17 is a new Control Center. It has been present on iPhone for years, and it’s claiming for some changes. We don’t know exactly which changes, if any, will be implemented. But considering the new Lock Screen, Apple may also allow users to further customize the Control Centers. Also allowing you to change the shortcuts and features would be a huge move in the right direction. Apple is gradually opening to customization on iPhones, and this seems to be the right move.
There is still a full month ahead of Apple’s WWDC 2023. With that in mind, we are pretty sure that more leaks about iOS 17 will emerge. As the announcement date draws near, they will likely start to become more reliable, and more “consistent” leaks should pop out in the wild. Until now, we will keep speculating.
