Next-gen under-display selfie cameras for foldable displays

Quality under-display cameras are often quite difficult to make. Then again, it is more challenging when you try to embed them into foldable displays. Many manufacturers are still struggling to produce selfie cameras with good characteristics to such devices. Now, the solution might be on the way with Next-gen under-display cameras.

A new solution is on the way

According to the latest rumors as NotebookcheckĀ reports, Chinese companies Huawei, ZTE, and BOE team up to bring the next-gen under-display selfie cameras to phones with foldable displays. Besides the main objective, which is improving current technology, these manufacturers will obviously compete with Samsung, whose Galaxy Z Fold 4 sports an under-display selfie camera with many shortcomings.

Namely, images taken with the selfie camera on the inner display are not really satisfying for many people. Also, that camera can still be seen from some angles.

The new flexible display should be made by BOE and will have many advantages compared to the one in Samsung. The new display is codenamed “Q8”, and it comes with 2480 x 1116 resolution. This is different from the 2,496 x 2,224 pixels, seen in the recently announced Huawei Mate X3. Rumors also mention ZTE, which might also be involved in the production of this kind of display, which will be able to sport Next-gen under-display cameras.

Many users tend to have a neat homescreen on their phones, but the punch-hole for selfie cameras often disrupts their experience. Not to mention various pills, dynamic islands, and even notches.

Under-display selfie cameras are around for some time now, but they are still not good enough to produce good selfies, compared to old-fashioned ones in punch holes. The vew next-gen under-display cameras may become a solution.

Will Next-gen under-display camerasĀ be available any time soon?

If this rumor about Next-gen under-display cameras comes true, the Next-gen under-display selfie cameras are around the corner. They might become mainstream in a short period of time. They could also change the direction of the industry in this segment. So, Huawei, ZTE, and BOU might take credit as the first companies to launch such a product.
