Google TV gave Android TV a much-needed facelift. But the update failed to address many of the platform’s core flaws. These include storage issues, slow performance, and long wake-up times. To fix these issues, Google will release an update for Google TV. So if you have a Google TV-powered TV or a streaming device like the Chromecast, it will get an improved experience.
Google TV New Features
First, Google TV will now support application hibernation. The latter will allow you to free up space on your TV by archiving apps that haven’t been used for more than 30 days. Another change is the reduced size of Google TV apps by around 25% through the use of Android app bundles. Google introduced the latter in November.
While you might think that these are just minor tweaks, in fact, together, they will ensure you always have enough space on your Google TV to install new apps and games. By the way, previously, the company released similar upgrades for Chromecast to address storage and performance issues.

You should also know that these are available right now. But they are limited to Google TV devices running Android 12. The company’s 4K Chromecast was updated to Android 12 in October 2022, while Walmart’s new Onn Google TV currently runs the required version of the OS.
All Google TV devices and remotes will also receive performance improvements. According to Google, your Google TV should wake up from sleep more quickly. Also, the loading animation that appears during a reboot is now shorter. Finally, Google TV will respond more quickly to remote button presses. Again, the combination of these changes should result in a smoother and faster Google TV experience.
Google TV’s performance and storage improvements come just a few months after it received a redesigned home screen with additional features to make it easier to discover the content you are watching.
