Samsung is currently the dominant player in the market for foldable phones, and there is great anticipation surrounding the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is one of the devices that many eagerly await, as it’s expected to have a couple of upgrades over its predecessors.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 introduced improvements to the camera, battery life, and performance. This year, Samsung is expected to make additional improvements to this beloved flip phone. Here is what we currently know about Samsung’s next Flip phone.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 be released?
Samsung has yet to reveal an official date for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 release. But we can look at when the previous models were released to estimate when the device may be unveiled. Notice that there was no Galaxy Z Flip 2.
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip: February 2020
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G: August 2020
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3: August 2021
- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4: August 2022
As you can see, Samsung has launched new foldable phones in August for the past three years. So we can safely bet on an August launch for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, some leaks from The Elec suggest that Samsung might launch the Flip 5 earlier.
The leaks suggest the launch might be pushed ahead by two or three weeks. This means we might see the Galaxy Z Flip 5 launch in July rather than August.
Features we might see in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
A new hinge mechanism and outer display
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 might get some considerable design changes this year. One of the design changes might be a new hinge mechanism to reduce the display crease. According to display analyst Ross Young, Samsung has redesigned the hinge to make the creaseless noticeable.
It is speculated that the company has developed a teardrop-style hinge similar to the one in the Oppo Find N2 Flip. The Flip 5’s external display will also get a design refresh. According to the renowned tipster Ice Universe, the external display is expected to get bigger. The Flip 4 has a 1.9-inch outer display, but we could see an even bigger 3.4-inch outer display with the Flip 5.

The external display is also expected to have a 720p resolution, which, given its size, is more than enough to deliver a sharp picture.
Performance, storage, and camera specs
Leaker Yogesh Brar has claimed that the Z Flip 5 will offer a Snapdragon for Galaxy chipset. This will likely be the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 found in the S23 lineup. However, Qualcomm also releases a Plus chipset in the middle of each year, so that might be a possibility too.
As for storage, SamMobile says we should see 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB options for the phone. There’s no news on whether Samsung will use the UFS 3.1 or 4.0 storage with the Z Flip 5. I guess they’ll use the slower UFS 3.0 in the 128GB variant and the new UFS 4.0 in the other variants.
Yogesh Brar has also shared details about the camera specifications of Galaxy Z Flip 5. According to the leaker, it will feature a dual rear camera system comprising a 12MP primary camera and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. This may be disappointing news for those of us who are anticipating significant upgrades.
However, Brar also suggested that the image sensors used are new. So, we might get to see some improvement in image quality.
How much will Galaxy Z Flip 5 cost?
There are no rumors or leaks about how much the Flip 5 will cost. But the previous Flip models show that Samsung has not raised the prices. The base model of the Flip 4 launched with a starting price of $999. This was the same base price the Galaxy Z Flip 3 went for in 2021. So we still expect the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to start at $999 for the base variant.
That’s all we’ve seen so far in terms of rumours around the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. However, we’ll continue to update this article regularly as more information becomes available. So be sure to check back regularly.
