There is no denying that we live in a smart world now. Since the introduction of smartphones in the early 2000s, almost everything else around us is getting smarter. We now have smart cars, smart homes, smartwatches etc. You would also agree with me that smart devices have made our lives far better these days. Now, you can stand anywhere and start an air conditioner in your home or car. All because of the availability of smart life.

Thanks to smart devices, you can send texts, images, videos and other files to every part of the world within seconds. With the help of instant messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger, Telegram, WhatsApp and the rest, communicating around the world is much easier.

WhatsApp for Smartwatch is Coming Soon WhatsApp Smartwatch

Speaking of which, WhatsApp has decided to take smart life to another level with a new update. This update focuses on smartwatches. The instant messaging app has introduced a new version of WhatsApp specifically for smartwatches.

According to a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has rolled out an update that enables the app to run on smartwatches running WearOS. This new feature comes after users update their WhatsApp to beta for Android 2.23.10.10. After installing the new update, some beta testers noticed that the app now supports smartwatches that run on Google’s WearOS.

As you may already know, WearOS is a special Android operating system that runs on smartwatches. For this reason, this new WhatsApp feature is exclusive to only Android devices. Smartwatches that run WearOS can now install the app and connect with the main WhatsApp on their smartphones. With this, users can now be able to start a new WhatsApp chat or reply to new messages on their smartwatches. They can also be able to send audio messages using their smartwatches. In order to be able to connect your smartwatch to WhatsApp, the app will prompt you to confirm the connection before it works. The user may have to confirm from the WhatsApp on your smartphone. For extra security, an 8-digit code will appear on the smartwatch. The user will then enter this code on their smartphone in order to confirm the connection. After this, your chats will sync across your devices so that you can be able to continue your chats on the smartwatch.

This new feature is clearly a good move for WhatsApp considering the growing popularity of smartwatches. Texting on a smaller screen may not be too convenient as compared to texting on a smartphone. However, it will extend the usability of WhatsApp across different platforms. The user can fully keep their hands off their phone and yet, will not miss any conversation.

Availability and Unsupported Features of WhatsApp Smartwatch Version

As a new introduction, there are some features that it may lack for now. For example, the user may not be able to view WhatsApp videos in the app. Also, you cannot make WhatsApp calls in the app. Hopefully, the company will include all these features in future to give the app total freedom on smartwatches.

Currently, this feature is under beta testing. To be able to access it, you need to be a beta tester first, else wait for the public rollout. To download it, you need to go to the Google Play Store and download it as a beta tester. Also, note that it is only available for the standard app and not the WhatsApp Business app.
