A few days ago, there were reports that the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max will come with a periscope telephoto lens. However, the periscope telephoto system is more complex than regular camera sensors. They need larger internal space so Apple had to adjust the placement of the sensors in the camera module. The iPhone 14 Pro’s lens setup with changes in the iPhone 15 Pro Max is shown in the image below. The 48MP main camera is in the upper left corner while the 12MP telephoto lens is in the upper right corner. Also, the 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens is in the lower corner. We can see that the periscope telephoto and ultra-wide-angle lenses swap positions.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max has periscope telephoto tech which offers 6x optical zoom. The camera tech exceeds the 3x optical zoom of the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The latter is the first Apple mobile phone that uses a periscope telephoto lens. Additionally, it has been reported that the iPhone 15 Pro Max has a matte texture on the back and sides, and is thicker than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The rear camera also has fewer bumps, and the charging port has been replaced with a USB Type-C port. Similar to the action button on the Apple Watch Ultra, the mute switch turns into a custom action button.
Gizchina News of the week
The screen frame is very narrow and the screen-to-body ratio is higher. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will come with a new generation of A17 Bionic SoC. This chip is built on TSMC’s 3nm process (N3), and the memory will also upgrade to 8GB.
Editor’s comment:
First off, Apple keeps a very tight lip when it comes to its new devices. At the moment, there is no official information about the iPhone 15 series. Thus, all we have for now are insider information, rumours and speculations which may not be the real deal. If everything goes according to plan, the iPhone 15 series will launch in September this year. As the first Apple mobile phone to adopt a periscope telephoto sensor, the iPhone 15 Pro Max will receive a lot of attention.
