The much-rumored Sony PlayStation Project Q has finally been unveiled. Announced at the PlayStation Showcase, the newest handheld is not quite what some gamers were hoping for. It is not a competitor of Nintendo Switch or the Steam Deck. Instead, Sony has specifically said that it was for streaming your PS5 games on a handheld screen.
That makes the Sony PlayStation Project Q go head-to-head with Razer Edge, which more or less offers the same functionality. So, it’s less of what Steam Deck is. But is it better than the Razer Edge? Well, you need to know the features that Sony has packed into the PlayStation handheld to get to that conclusion.
Main Highlights of Sony PlayStation Project Q
As a handheld gaming device, the Sony PlayStation Project Q looks pretty much like a DualSense controller. But the thing that makes it different than a PS5 controller is the 8-inch screen, which separates two halves of the controller. Launching later this year, the PlayStation handheld will be exclusive to PS Remote Play.

In other words, the Sony PlayStation Project Q is basically for offering a better experience than PS Remote Play on a mobile. The announcement also makes it pretty clear that the games need to be installed on your PS5. After all, there’s no native hardware inside the handheld to let you play PlayStation games on it.
That said, there’s no official word on what the software on Project Q will be like. Sony did not mention anything about being able to run the device without connecting it to the PS5. Still, getting DualSense features on a streaming handheld already makes it better than the Razer Edge.
But it’s questionable whether the device will actually appeal to the mass. Maybe, Sony could add the PS Now integration, which could make it more attractive to gamers who prioritize portability.
