After a series of leaks and rumors, Xiaomi has finally launched the Xiaomi Civi 3 smartphone in China. It arrives as the direct successor to the Xiaomi Civi 2 launched in 2022. The device is a perfect blend of visual aesthetics and performance. And Xiaomi has priced it quite aggressively in China. So let’s take a closer look at the specifications, features, and the price of Xiaomi Civi 3 in this story.
Xiaomi Civi 3 Design and Display
Like other phones in the Civi series, Xiaomi Civi 3 boasts a sleek and stylish design. It comes with a dual-tone finish on the back and a slim profile measuring only 7.56mm. Interestingly, Xiaomi has partnered with WGSN, a global fashion trend forecasting agency, to bring this dual-tone design to the phone.
The phone is also lightweight at just 173 grams. And Xiaomi has thoughtfully offered curved edges to improve the phone’s ergonomic feel when held. To suit different tastes, it comes in four attractive color options: Rose Purple, Mint Green, Adventure Gold, and Coconut Ash. The back panel houses a triple camera setup positioned at the top-left corner. It is elegantly encircled by a matching metal ring which well-complements the rear panel’s look.
On the front, the smartphone features a 6.55-inch 12-bit curved OLED panel with Full HD resolution. The screen refreshes at 120Hz and has a touch sampling rate of up to 240Hz. It is also bright enough for outdoor use, with a peak brightness of 1500 nits. And the display covers the DCI-P3 color gamut.
Apart from this, the Civi 3 features 1920Hz PWM Dimming for flicker-free viewing and a Primary Color Screen for precise color reproduction. The display is also certified with HDR10+, but it does not have a Dolby Vision rating. Xiaomi has taken care of the durability side of things with Gorilla Glass protection on the front.
Performance
In charge of things inside is the MediaTek Dimensity 8200-Ultra chipset. For starters, the 8200-Ultra is an upgraded version of the Dimensity 8200 with faster CPU and GPU clock speeds. As a result, both the SoCs have the same core architecture. But the most significant difference between the 8200 and the Ultra counterpart is you get support for both the sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G bands on the latter.
Gizchina News of the week
It is based on TSMC’s 4nm process node and has octa-core clusters of CPU. The primary is a Cortex-X2 core clocked at up to 3.2 GHz which is accompanied by three Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.85 GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 2.0 GHz. The graphics are handled by a Mali-G610 MC6 GPU. Since the Dimensity 8200 Ultra is quite a decent performer, Xiaomi has offered a large 4000mm² stainless steel VC liquid cooling system in the phone.
Memory-wise, you get to choose between 12GB or 16GB of RAM. Interestingly, the 16GB option is based on the latest LPDDR5X technology, while the 12GB option is on LPDDR5 memory. As for the storage, you get to choose from 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of storage. The smartphone comes pre-loaded with Android 13-based MIUI 14.
Camera
Let’s now delve into the cameras of the Xiaomi Civi 3. On the rear, it boasts a triple camera setup that takes the spotlight. The star of the show is a 50MP Sony IMX800 sensor with an impressive f/1.77 aperture and optical image stabilization (OIS). Accompanying it is an 8MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 aperture. However, it’s worth mentioning that Xiaomi still includes a rather pointless 2MP macro lens. The primary camera lets you record videos at up to 4K@30fps.
Moving to the front, the Civi 3 features a dual-camera setup for capturing selfies. The primary lens is a 32MP shooter with a bright f/2.0 aperture and the added convenience of autofocus capability. The secondary front-facing camera, also 32MP, serves as an ultra-wide angle lens, allowing you to fit more into your shots. It comes equipped with electronic image stabilization (EIS) support to ensure steady footage and boasts an f/2.4 aperture. The front camera is also capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps.
Battery and Connectivity
Fueling the Xiaomi Civi 3 is a 4500mAh battery. Although the battery capacity is small because of the phone’s slim form factor, Xiaomi claims a battery life of more than a day on a single charge. Speaking of which, the phone charges via a 67W charger. The adapter 38 minutes to take the phone from 0 to 100%. Not to forget, the smartphone also supports BC1.2, PD3.0, and PD2.0 charging protocols.
Moreover, the phone has a range of connectivity features, including 5G, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.3 with support for AAC, LDAC, and LHDC. It also has NFC, Beidou, GLONASS, and AGNSS. For haptics, Xiaomi is using a dedicated Z-axis linear motor. And for biometrics, you get an in-display fingerprint sensor.
