With the release of the OnePlus 11, OnePlus gave a little teaser about its first-ever foldable phone back in March. The company played a short video on stage, which confirmed that OnePlus Fold is surely a thing and it is coming for the Samsung Z Fold series (source).
Well, it seems that OnePlus really wants to steal the thunder of Samsung. The latest report regarding the device suggests that the launch event of the OnePlus Fold will take place in New York in the first half of August (source). That means the device will be launched only a week or two after Samsung releases its Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Does OnePlus Fold Have What It Takes?
Setting a launch date right after Samsung is done with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 means one thing. That is, the OnePlus wants to steal the thunder of Samsung. And the most important part is that the device will be available in the US, India, and all the other countries where OnePlus currently offers its devices.

So, OnePlus is also targeting the same markets as Samsung. But the real question is, will OnePlus Fold have what it takes to compete against Galaxy Z Fold 5? Well, it will all boil down to the specs and pricing. As far as we know, the device will be a global version of Oppo Find N3.
That means you can expect to see a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 16GB of RAM, a QHD+ resolution inner screen, and a 6.5-inch outer FHD+ screen. Both displays will likely run at a 120Hz refresh rate, which should offer you a smooth overall experience.
Regarding software, the OnePlus Fold will release with Android 13 running with Oxygen OS 13.1 on top. And as the device is expected to have up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, you will not need to worry too much while keeping large files.
Finally, when it comes to cameras, the Fold will feature a 48MP ultrawide, 50MP main sensor with OIS, and 32MP periscope on the back. If you asked me, these are some decent specs for a foldable phone. And I think that OnePlus could grab the potential customers of the Z Fold 5 with the right pricing. But we will need to wait and see if that actually happens.
