As Carscoops said, Toyota had launched an AI-based app made to speed up the car design process for its employees. This unique tech, developed by the Toyota Research Institute (TRI), uses AI to assist in the early stages of car design. It can convert text info into visuals that human designers can then select and modify.

The aim of the app is not to replace human designers or to create new car designs on its own. Instead, this tool creates images that meet the designers’ specific needs. For example, the process takes into account chassis size, drag coefficient, fuel economy, handling, safety, and comfort design.

Toyota designers may include terms such as ‘smooth lines’ or ‘SUV shape’, as well as technical specs such as ‘low wind resistance’. Based on this input, the app then creates a set of examples to help designers complete their design process much faster.

In an interview, a Toyota executive said that while AI can inspire designers, it is still not mature to manage the complicated technical and safety elements of car design. Toyota’s strategy is to combine long-standing technical expertise with cutting-edge AI tech to create a more thorough design process.

As always, Toyota wants to be more creative and complete tasks faster. At this time, it is using AI in the design process. The AI tool helps designers explore various design options, making car shape creation more efficient. By the way, Toyota is the Lean approach widely used nowadays.

Toyota and Nissan are using AI to improve aerodynamics. But if Toyota runs AI for existing sketches, Nissan checks the creations of its workers. Both firms are using AI to increase performance and fuel efficiency, which improves car design. To achieve these goals, AI will assist the designers.
