Nubia reveals the Red Magic 8S Pro battery specs and design in all glory

Nubia is one of the most important names in the smartphone market. The brand owned by ZTE, gained the spotlight in recent years due to its excellent smartphones packed with the latest technology. Among them, we can highlight the Red Magic gaming smartphone series. The gaming smartphone brand focuses on bringing an immersive and powerful experience to gamers. Devices under the brand, bring the best hardware and features that are unique to the brand. For instance, we can cite the active cooling solution that uses a true cooling fan. Red Magic is now gearing up to bring a new champion to the gaming smartphone market dubbed Red Magic 8S Pro.

Nubia is all set to introduce its next gaming contender under the Red Magic series. The Red Magic 8S Pro will be unveiled on July 5, and at first glance, you won’t see big changes over its predecessor. However, upon examining the internals, it reveals a more powerful ARM Cortex-X3 CPU core. Today, Nubia decided to reveal the phone’s design through official renders. It will look the same, but why change something when it already looks nice?

Nubia Red Magic 8S Pro – RGB and Transparent design

There are some notable differences between the Red Magic 8 Pro and the newer 8S Pro. For instance, the writing is different on the back and the 20,000 RPM cooling fan is depicted in a different form. Of Course, none of these changes are real improvements or game-changing. In any case, these are nice differences to make us differentiate one device from another.

Red Magic 8S Pro

The Red Magic 8S Pro renders reveal the new transparent version of the handset. This unit is expected to feature an RGB light. Gamers love RGB lights on their setups, and Nubia is smart to add them as a nice detail. The Silver and Black Options are also present in the renders. They come in two variants – with and without an RGB circle over the fan. The RGB lights could also serve as notification lights but obviously will cost a bit more than the non-RGB variants.

*OBS: If you’re not a gamer, You may be wondering what is RGB. The name itself is simple, as RGB stands for Red, Green, and Blue. As most gamers know, these three different colors can be mixed to create seemingly infinite combinations of colors.

Other details revealed

The Red Magic 8S Pro will have flat sides and an under-display selfie camera. A USB Type-C port will be on the bottom and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Notably, most modern flagships lack an audio jack. However, as a gaming phone, the Red Magic 8S Pro focuses on offering more to its consumers (gamers). If you have a good headset with a 3.5mm jack, then you will be able to use it on the phone for an immersive gaming experience.

The Red Magic 8S Pro also brings a neat toggle for Game Mode. Outside of the gaming world, it’s basically an”Alert Slider”. There are also two touch-sensitive shoulder triggers for hardcore gaming. The cameras are aligned vertically without a proper island. There is a single LED flash that sits above the lenses.

The phone will bring overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 6000 mAh battery with 165W fast-charging

The 8S Pro will be unveiled on July 5 and the brand will keep teasing it in the days ahead. Besides the design, Nubia confirmed it will come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC with a prime core clocked at up to 3.36 GHz. It will also be the first smartphone to launch with 24 GB of RAM. The brand also confirmed the battery details today. The phone will get a 6,000 mAh battery with 165W fast-charging support. That’s twice more than the Red Magic 8 Pro model which charges at up to 80W, and almost the triple global variant which charges at 65W charging.

It’s the first time we see a brand pairing blazing fast charging with a huge battery with 6,000 mAh capacity. That will be one of the phone’s most appealing details for consumers. After all, the battery will allow players to enjoy many hours of gaming, and whenever you need to charge it, it will charge super fast.

Nubia is constantly building on the hype for the Nubia Red Magic 8S Pro, and as I’ve said before we expect more teasers to appear in the next few days. The Red Magic 8 Pro came for CNY 3,999 ($580) and the brand increased its price to CNY 4,199 ($580). We will have to wait and see if the new phone will cost the same as its predecessor.

How Does the Nubia Red Magic 8S Pro compare against the competition?

The Nubia Red Magic 8S Pro will compete directly with the ASUS ROG Phone 7 series. Both phones focus on the gaming audience and have their own set of differentials to be attractive. While both have features such as shoulder buttons, advanced cooling, and flagship processors, the Red Magic 8S Pro may have an advantage with the use of an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The chipset has a higher clock speed for the Prime Core, which in a device that focuses on performance is very significant. In theory, the Red Magic 8S Pro could offer better performance on games, especially the most demanding ones. Of Course, we will need to wait for the launch to evaluate the device with our own hands.

Thankfully, we won’t need to wait much longer. But as far as the specifications go, the Red Magic 8S Pro could stand as the best gaming phone of 2023 so far.
