Nothing Phone 2 – the details
Design and Display
Although the design of the Nothing Phone 2 is similar to that of the Phone 1, there are some improvements. The body is thinner and lighter while the back glass is more rounded. According to the company, the improvements in the design make this device feels better in the hand. This device comes with a semi-transparent glowing rear and enhanced Glyph lighting. The phone is 162.1 x 76.4 x 8.6mm and weighs 201.2g. The Nothing Phone 2 is not waterproof as it supports an IP54 rating. However, it is protected from water splashes and partially protected from dust. According to The Electrical Counter, the IP54 rating only protects a device from “limited amounts of dust and other particles”.
With regards to the display, this mobile phone comes with a 6.7-inch OLED LTPO screen. The display supports a 120Hz high refresh rate as well as HDR 10+. It also supports 10 bits and its maximum brightness hits 1600nit. Nothing claims that this device offers an excellent display effect. The Phone 1 had a 6.2-inch AMOLED display, thus, the new display on the Phone 2 is an increase with respect to the previous generation.
The most striking feature of the Phone 2 is its Glyph interface, a way of displaying info and interacting with the rear LED strip. The new Glyph interface uses more LED lights to help communicate details about the phone without relying on the screen. Users can check the volume, countdown, takeaway status, taxi time and other information through the Glyph interface without turning on the screen. Furthermore, users can set different lighting modes for different contacts so that they can see at a glance when they receive a message. In addition, users can also customize lighting and sound effects through the Glyph editor.
Processor, RAM, and Storage
The Nothing Phone 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which was the best processor in the Android world in 2022. The phone has 8GB / 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage space. Specifically, the available memory combinations are 8GB+128GB, 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB. However, the phone’s storage can be expandable via a microSD card.

The camera is the Sony IMX890 sensor, which supports 4K video shooting at 60 frames per second. The main camera also supports OIS as well as other advanced features such as night mode and portrait mode. On the front, this new mobile phone comes with a decent 32MP sensor which the company claims can capture pretty good selfies.
Battery and Charging
Nothing claims that this device offers a longer battery life with its 4700 mAh. The device also supports 45W fast charging. According to the company, this device can get a full charge in 55 minutes. This mobile phone also supports 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging.
Software and Other Features
The Nothing Phone 2 also runs Nothing OS 2.0, a custom operating system based on Android 13. The system is designed to provide a “fast and smooth” experience. Nothing OS 2.0 also has a novel black and white theme, and users can choose to hide app labels to make the interface more concise. Nothing OS 2.0 also improves widgets for the home and lock screens and adds other custom design elements.
In other respects, the new phone also supports IP54 dustproof and splashproof, NFC, dual speakers, and provides 3-year Android major version updates and 4-year security updates. Also, users of this phone will have access to its stereo speakers for decent sound output.
