Apple continues with its push into the payment service segment with Apple’s Tap To Pay. The feature arrived in the US last year and now is making its way to the UK. To those unaware, Apple Tap To Pay allows the iPhone to act as a mobile point of sales terminal for merchants. It only requires a supporting mobile app to set up. Thanks to the new feature, Merchants will be able to accept digital wallet, credit, and debit card payments on their iPhones without the need for extra hardware.
Apple Tap-To Pay Continues Its Expansion
The Merchants in the UK will need an iPhone XS or newer to use Tap to Pay. They will also need to download and set up a supported payment app from the App Store. At the initial stage, the platform will work with Revolut and Tyl by Natwest payment platforms. It is coming to Apple Store locations across the UK in the coming weeks. Support for Adyen, Dojo, myPOS, Stripe, SumUp, Viva Wallet, Worldline, and Zettle by PayPal will be added later. You can see Apple’s official statement below:
Gizchina News of the week
“We’ve seen Tap to Pay on iPhone transform the checkout experience for so many different types of businesses. We’re thrilled to now support merchants across the U.K. by offering an easy, secure, and private way to accept contactless payments. We will be using the power, security, and convenience of the iPhone, with no additional hardware needed.
Small and medium-sized businesses have long played a vital role in the U.K. economy. Alongside payment platforms, app developers, and payment networks, we’re making it easier than ever for U.K. businesses to seamlessly accept contactless payments and continue to grow their business. – Jennifer Bailey, VP of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet”.
Once the merchant set up Tap To Pay, he will be able to accept NFC payments from customers via a tap. Worth noting that there shouldn’t be worries related to security. Apple will provide the same level of security found within Apple Pay – The Secure Element Encryption tech is also employed here. Moreover, the specific transaction data on what is being purchased is not shared with Apple. So you’re safe and your privacy is also guaranteed.
This is just one additional step for Apple to consolidate its new feature. We may see more regions getting the same feature in the near future.
