Earlier this month, Microsoft disclosed details about Sony’s upcoming PlayStation release. The information came out through court documents from the legal battle between Microsoft and the United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC). And those court documents hinted that Sony will release the PS5 Slim later this year.
Microsoft has even disclosed the pricing information of the next PlayStation 5 console in those court documents. If you missed it, Microsoft said that Sony will release a new console at the same price as the current Digital Edition of PS5, which is $399.99.
However, Tom Henderson, a reputed reporter about everything console, has reported that PS5 Slim will not be the next console from Sony. Instead, it will be an improved model of the current PlayStation 5.
What Did Tom Henderson Say About PS5 Slim?
In case you don’t know, Tom Henderson was the first person who revealed the existence of PlayStation 5 before it was released. So, his information about the next PS5 version should not be neglected. Nonetheless, Tom says that the new model will not be called PS5 Slim.
Gizchina News of the week
According to Tom, he has personally viewed the prototype of the upcoming console. And he said that the model does not appear to be a slimmer version of the original PlayStation 5. Instead, the console will come with slightly different dimensions than the current model. Also, it will be compatible with a detachable disc drive.
That said, Tom has only seen the prototype versions. There’s a high chance that those prototypes were for PS5 Pro instead of the next console release from Sony. Considering Sony’s product lineup, PlayStations are available in three distinct forms. The first is regular, the second is Slim, and the third is Pro.
I've only seen prototypes. I don't think it will be "slim" at all. Just slightly different dimensions but we'll see

Judging by the statements from Microsoft in the court battle, there’s a high chance that the next release will be PS5 Slim. So, nothing is actually confirmed at this point. We will need to wait and see how Sony handles the brands and markets its next console.
