WhatsApp’s Updated Security Notifications: What You Need to Know

WhatsApp

WhatsApp is no doubt one of the best instant messaging apps today. Its beta versions allow beta testers to see some of the new features that regular users don’t get to see. Not all the features in the beta version will be included in the final release. However, some small changes to the user interface usually end up being part of the stable release. The most recent version of WhatsApp beta introduces a small visual change to its Security notifications menu. It features some new wording at the top and larger text for the existing content.

Changes to WhatsApp Security Section Interface

According to WABetaInfo, the new feature comes with the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.15.21. This version started rolling out to users who are part of the beta program via the Play Store this week. As seen in the accompanying screenshots, there are noticeable differences between the old and new UI of the Security notifications page. The top section has a completely redesigned header image. The text below has now moved to the center and reworded to say, “WhatsApp protects your privacy.” WhatsApp

After the “WhatsApp protects your privacy” statement, there is a similar disclaimer about the app’s end-to-end encryption capabilities, along with larger bullet points below it. In the new beta version, these bullet points have green icons instead of the standard gray ones found in the current stable version. These green icons emphasize the WhatsApp features that developers or the parent company cannot access or read. This further emphasizes the app’s commitment to user privacy.

Gizchina News of the week

The new menu design seems to be already active on Google Pixel 6a with WhatsApp beta version 2.23.15.22. While this update might not drastically change how you use WhatsApp, it indicates that the app is now placing more emphasis on showcasing its security features. This step is especially significant given the current global awareness and concerns regarding government surveillance. By prominently displaying its security credentials, WhatsApp aims to assure its users about the privacy and protection of their data during a time when such issues are at the forefront of public attention.
