According to a report from DigiTimes, citing sources within Apple’s supply chain, the new 15-inch MacBook Air is not selling as well as they had hoped. In July, the number of shipments for this laptop has been 50% lower than their initial expectations. This decline is part of a broader trend of decreased sales in the notebook market.
Due to the slow start of sales, the report states that certain Apple suppliers have asked for a decrease in the number of 15-inch MacBook Air shipments.
Specifications of the 15-inch Apple MacBook Air
The 15-inch MacBook Air was introduced at WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) last month. It comes with a starting price of $1,299 and shares the same design and M2 chip as the 13-inch model. However, it offers a larger display and two additional speakers. This release introduces the 15-inch display option to the MacBook Air lineup, expanding beyond the existing 13-inch and discontinued 11-inch sizes.
Gizchina News of the week
As of now, it is uncertain whether the demand for the 15-inch MacBook Air has matched Apple’s internal expectations. The company has plans to reveal its third-quarter earnings results on August 3. During that time, they might provide some insights or comments regarding the laptop’s performance. Additionally, in the same quarter, Apple also released other new Macs, including the spec-bumped Mac Studio and Mac Pro models.
Apple Plans to Launch a 13-inch MacBook Pro
According to the report, the MacBook supply chain can expect an “upcoming announcement” regarding a new MacBook Pro. However, specific details are not provided. However, the publication had previously mentioned that Apple intends to launch a new 13-inch MacBook Pro equipped with an M3 chip later this year. This M3 chip is expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process. It will offer considerable improvements in performance and power efficiency compared to the current 5nm-based M2 chip found in the existing 13-inch MacBook Pro.
