There have been multiple reports about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the past few months. Qualcomm has also officially unveiled the announcement date of the next-gen flagship chipset. In case you missed it, the Snapdragon Summit of this year is planned for October 24, which will fully unveil the 8 Gen 3.
But you don’t need to wait that long just to see what the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 can bring to the table. The chipset has been spotted on Geekbench, which gives full information on the configuration Qualcomm has utilized for the processor. The Geekbench listing also offers performance scores, letting you better understand how well it will compare to predecessors.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Configuration Revealed In Geekbench
Past reports have hinted that the 8 Gen 3 will feature a tri-cluster CPU with a 1 + 5 + 2 layout. Some have even hinted that the SoC will come with five middle cores with a 1 + 3 + 2 + 2 configuration. Well, the Geekbench listing has finally revealed what the config of the CPU is like.
As you can see from the picture attached above, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 indeed has a four-cluster configuration. That means it features a 1 + 3 + 2 + 2 configuration. In other words, the latter reports regarding the chipset were valid. In terms of clock speed, the cores are configured in this manner:
- 1 x 3.3 GHz super core
- 3 x 3.15 GHz A720 large cores
- 2 x 2.96 GHz A720 large cores
- 2 x 2.27 GHz A520 small cores
When it comes to the GPU, the Geekbench listing confirmed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will feature Adreno 750. However, it did not give any specific information regarding the clock speed or the performance score of the GPU. So, you’ll need to wait for further reports to understand how well the gaming performance will be.
That said, the listing showcased a Samsung phone being benchmarked with the 8 Gen 3. As the image shows, the device is codenamed Samsung SM-926U. If you compare it with the Galaxy S23 codenames, the SM-926U hints that the device is Samsung Galaxy S24+.

And considering the fact that Samsung utilized Snapdragon for Galaxy in the S23 lineup, this benchmark might be 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy. That means the performance of the chipset in other devices might not be the same as this benchmark.
How Does the Benchmark Score Comapres?
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has achieved a score of 2,231 points in the single-core benchmark. And in the multicore benchmark, the flagship SoC has obtained a 6,661 score. We can use these numbers to compare the new chipset’s performance leap.
To compare, the current flagship from MediaTek, the Dimensity 9200+, scores 2,117 in the single-core benchmark and 5,583 in the multicore score. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 obtains 2,005 points in single-core and 5,274 in multicore.
Previously, TSMC, the semiconductor company behind Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, promised at least an 11% performance boost. The company utilized the advanced N4P manufacturing process, which is more efficient than N5 technology. And according to the performance scores, TSMC seems to have delivered!
Specifically, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 gains a 10% performance boost in terms of single-core and 20% in multicore. These performance gains are pretty respectable for a generational upgrade. However, the performance will fall flat against the upcoming Apple A17 Bionic as the performance scores of the current-gen A16 Bionic already has relatively better scores than the 8 Gen 3. It gets 2512 in the single-core performance.
But, considering how good the performance scores of the chipset are, it should offer a much smoother and redefined real-world smartphone experience. So, the chipset is definitely worth looking forward to.
