Who exactly owns AI.com, and what are they using it for? This priceless domain, which used to send customers to ChatGPT, now points to xAI, an AI firm owned by Elon Musk. On its website, xAI, a separate company from X Corp, claims to be working closely with X, the social media firm formerly known as Twitter. They claim to train their extensive language model using posts from X.
The cat is out of the bag! We are proud to say we were part of the https://t.co/MIOZQUrFWM domain sale. It is exciting to see what they are doing with it! #welovedomains #ChatGPT #giddyup

Who owns AI.com
After changing hands in 2021, AI.com was dormant until February, when it began redirecting to ChatGPT. Although never explicitly stated, domain broker Saw.com speculated that OpenAI might have bought it and helped the change. The mystery of the true buyer of AI.com remains unsolved, despite the $11 million asking price. It is still unknown if OpenAI actually bought it after discovering a security flaw or if someone bought it because they were passionate about ChatGPT before switching sides.
In another curious development, X, which had previously been rebranded from Twitter to X, recently grabbed the @xai handle from a Japanese user without his permission, making it the official account for xAI.
Gizchina News of the week
The owner of the domain name AI.com is still unknown, and attempts to find out more through Whois searches have been unsuccessful, as there hasn’t been a recent change of ownership. This suggests that the change took place within the last 48 hours prior to the report.
Elon Musk suggested in a Twitter Space chat that xAI will express politically incorrect beliefs and face backlash, despite the fact that the company currently has no goods. He defined it as a truth-seeking device designed to solve cosmic mysteries, such as why extraterrestrial life hasn’t made contact with us.
Today Elon Musk held a Twitter Space to discuss xAI.
Here is a recap of what was discussed for those who missed it:
– The founding team was on hand to introduce themselves, and I must say it is an impressive team with an impressive background. They had very strong backgroundsā¦ pic.twitter.com/tgAKrcRkGU

Mashable has contacted both Saw.com and xAI in an attempt to realize what’s going on, but neither has responded to date. We still don’t know what happened with AI.com and xAI.
