All good things eventually come to an end, and this saying holds true for Samsung Galaxy devices as well. These devices will no longer receive any new software updates from the company. Samsung follows a specific policy for providing software updates, and this policy outlines the duration for which Galaxy devices receive updates. In the previous policy, the company offered software updates for up to five years, with flagship devices receiving a maximum of three updates. However, in 2022, Samsung made changes to this policy and extended the software eligibility for certain devices. Let’s take a closer look at these changes.
The Following Samsung Galaxy Device Will No Longer Receive Software Updates
A number of Galaxy devices that were introduced in 2019 have been excluded by Samsung from receiving any further software updates. This means that these devices will not receive any significant or minor updates going forward. Let’s take a look at the devices that are no longer eligible for new updates.
- Galaxy S10, S10+, and S10e
- Galay X Cover 4S
- Galaxy A80
- Galaxy A40
- Galaxy A10
- Galaxy A30
- Galaxy A50
- Galaxy Tab A10.1 (2019)
- Galaxy Tab S5e
- Galaxy Tab S6
Nonetheless, Samsung occasionally releases additional updates in the form of security patches. For instance, the Galaxy S10 series devices have already passed their fourth year, and as per the company’s previous policy, they were no longer going to receive new updates after the March 2023 security update. However, there has been an unexpected discovery of a new update on certain US carriers, such as Verizon, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, and US Cellular.
Adding to this, even after the official software support had concluded, Samsung surprised users by releasing a new update for the Galaxy S10, S10+, and S10e. These devices had already surpassed their fourth year, which meant that according to the initial policy, they were not scheduled to receive any new updates beyond the March 2023 security update.
Note: The list provided above is compiled based on information from Samsung’s official page. These devices have been removed from the security update category.
