Tecno Takes a Giant Step, Introduces Phantom Ultimate, a Rollable Smartphone Concept

Tecno has introduced a new smartphone concept called the Phantom Ultimate. This new technology comes from Tecno’s research and development labs. The unique phone can stretch its screen sideways. Tecno’s Phantom Ultimate can stretch from 6.55 inches to 7.11 inches in just 1.2 to 1.3 seconds. This is Tecno’s second concept device, and it closely resembles the Vision V. Except it doesn’t fold like the Vision V does.

The Phantom Ultimate utilizes a single-drive motor system. This is conveniently located on the top right side of the phone. With a simple button press, this system extends the device. When in its rolled state, it functions as a standard 6.55-inch smartphone. Meanwhile, the additional screen remains on the back, serving as an Always-On Display.

Specifications of the Tecno Phantom Ultimate Tecno Phantom Ultimate

Regarding its specifications, the panel on the Phantom Ultimate measures 7.11 inches. It also uses On-cell LTPO AMOLED technology with a resolution of 2,296 x 1,596 pixels. In all, the display results in a pixel density of 388 PPI. It claims to provide 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut. However, it’s important to note that such figures can be challenging to confirm on a concept device.

The device measures 9.93 mm in thickness at its base. Tecno assures users that can be able to hold it comfortably in one hand. To ensure durability, the sliding area of the device is protected by glass. The back features a textured surface to enhance grip.

Regrettably, the Phantom Ultimate remains just a concept. Therefore, there’s no sign of it becoming available on the market in the near future. The development of rollable phones presents certain technological challenges. At the moment, it’s uncertain how long it might take to overcome these hurdles and bring such devices to consumers.

Tecno isn’t the only company to introduce concept rollable smartphones. The likes of LG, Samsung and other big tech companies have all introduced similar concepts in the past.

At this point, we hope to see such smartphones getting into the market soon.
