Huawei has moved another step further with its HarmonyOS operating system. The company has announced that it is soon coming out with a native HarmonyOS App ecosystem.
The news comes after HarmonyOS 4 was installed on over 60 million devices. According to the company, it was able to reach this milestone in just two months after it was launched.
Huawei has announced that HarmonyOS NEXT is ready to be released. They plan to introduce a wide range of native HarmonyOS applications with this new software. During a recent product launch conference, Yu Chengdong, the CEO of Huawei Consumer Business Group, mentioned that a new era of mobile applications is on the horizon.
He also highlighted that Huawei has trained millions of individuals with expertise in HarmonyOS. The company has devised a plan to invest a substantial amount of money to support the developer community, create a more developer-friendly environment, and establish new partnerships.
The company’s goal is to introduce apps in more than 18 categories. In conclusion, Yu Chengdong also stated that these native HarmonyOS applications will be more seamless, intelligent, and secure for the next generation of HarmonyOS users.
At the Developer Conference 2023, Huawei revealed “HarmonyOS NEXT.” This is a clean version of the operating system that doesn’t include Android libraries. Once it’s ready, the existing HarmonyOS version will be replaced by the pure HarmonyOS NEXT experience.
Gizchina News of the week
Reason Why Huawei HarmonyOS Has Android Libraries
Since its launch in 2019, HarmonyOS has used open-source Android project libraries to help its app ecosystem. This allowed Android apps to function on HarmonyOS. The Chinese tech firm made this choice because the native HarmonyOS app collection was initially not very strong.
After its introduction in 2020 for smartphones, Huawei has actively promoted HarmonyOS in China. As a result, many Chinese developers have become familiar with this operating system.
Huawei also made the HarmonyOS code open source, which extended the operating system to more than just Huawei. This allowed many other companies in the industry to join and support the growth of the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
In the last four years, Huawei has built a robust HarmonyOS ecosystem with leading developers and an open-source community. As a result, breaking away from Android support should not pose a significant challenge for HarmonyOS NEXT to provide a complete native HarmonyOS app experience.
Huawei HarmonyOS NEXT Release Date
Huawei has confirmed that HarmonyOS NEXT will commence official developer beta activities in early 2024, followed by closed and public beta tests before the full public release. However, Huawei has not yet announced any specific upgrade plans.
