The second generation of Leica’s instant camera, aptly named the Leica Sofort 2, is finally out. The making of this second-generation camera took seven years, but the wait appears to be totally worth it.
Everything about the Leica Sofort 2 instant camera is premium, from the exterior to the interior. And as you can expect, the unit has a premium price tag slapped onto it. To be precise, the launch pricing of the camera is €389/$389, which is relatively higher than the popular Instax Evo from Fujifilm.
More About the Leica Sofort 2 Instant Camera
The overall build quality of the Leica Sofort 2 is well up to the mark. It comes with a recognizable design and is available in three different colors: White, Red, and Black. But what’s really important is that the second-generation unit is no longer just an instant camera.

Instead, it’s a hybrid camera featuring a 1/5-inch CMOS sensor. This sensor can capture 4.9MP photos, which you can store on a microSD card. Of course, you can choose to print them right from the Sofort 2 too. Also, you can send the photos you have captured from your phone or other cameras to the unit and get instant printed pictures.
For those wondering, the Leica Sofort 2 utilizes a Sofort color film mini. It’s 86 x 54 mm in size. And on the back of the unit, there’s a 3-inch LCD display with a menu similar to the other Leica cameras. Also, there’s a 28mm equivalent Leica Summar f/2 lens on the front. It has the same focal length as the popular Leica Q series fixed-lens units.
Furthermore, this lens has a 10cm minimum focusing distance, and there’s a flash on the front too. And if you’re wondering, Leica will start to ship the Sofort 2 from November 9.
