vivo X100 lineup made its official debut in China. The series brings two brand-new smartphones: the X100 and the X100 Pro. As a successor of the vivo X90 series, the new lineup is the pioneer of a newly released MediaTek chipset, the Dimensity 9300.
However, the new chipset is not the only factor that solidifies the vivo X100 series as a proper successor to the vivo X90 lineup. In addition to that, both the two smartphones, especially the X100 Pro, bring a big improvement in the camera department. There are plenty of other upgrades too.
Main Highlights of the vivo X100 Series
The vivo X100 series brings flagship-grade specs across the board. Everything about the two devices is premium, from the chipset to the screen to the design. Here’s a quick glimpse of all of the key features:
Flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9300 Chipset
As expected, one of the biggest highlights of the vivo X100 series is the recently launched Dimensity 9300. For those who missed our in-depth coverage of the chipset, it features a three-tier CPU configuration. This config comprises four ARM Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores.
Three of the four Cortex-X4 cores are clocked at 2.85 GHz, while the other one runs at 3.25 GHz. As for the Cortex-A720 cores, all four are clocked at 2.0 GHz. As I’ve pointed out in the previous coverage, MediaTek purposedly didn’t use any low-power Cortex A-520 cores. This made the chipset offer the right blend of performance and efficiency.
And with this, the vivo X100 phones become much better performers than the vivo X90 series. As a matter of fact, recent benchmarks have even shown that the Dimensity 9300 can outperform the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in AnTuTu.
Top-notch Display
Both the vivo X100 and X100 Pro come with a 6.78-inch screen on the front. It’s an LTPO AMOLED screen that boasts 1260p resolution and features a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 1 Hz to 120 Hz.
In addition, the display of the vivo X100 series has support for 10bit colors, can offer a peak brightness of 3000 NITS, and boasts 2160 Hz PWM dimming for a comfortable viewing experience.
Superior Camera Setup
The display of the vivo X100 series houses a 32 MP front-facing camera, which resides inside a punch-hole cutout. And on the back, the X100 Pro comes with three 50MP sensors. Among them, the main sensor of the top-end model is the 1-inch type Sony IMX989 sensor.
But what really makes the camera setup of the vivo X100 Pro stand out is the camera tech that it incorporates. It’s the world’s first smartphone to feature a telephoto lens certified by Zeiss APO. This certification basically ensures that the zoom lens can capture true-to-life colors.
Gizchina News of the week
It does that by boasting an apochromatically corrected zoom lens that aligns the blue, red, and green colors into the same focus plane. Aside from life-like color reproduction, this zoom lens brings improved clarity. Also, the lens reduces the fringes at the contrast edges, making the vivo X100 Pro excel in zoomed shots.
Moreover, the vivo X100 Pro comes with a new floating periscope module. It features an f/2.57 aperture with a 100mm equivalent focal length. This periscope sensor can deliver up to 100x digital and 4.3x optical zoom.
The third module of the vivo X100 Pro is a 15mm equivalent ultrawide lens. It features a f/2.0 aperture. All three sensors have T* lens coating, which reduces reflectivity by 50% compared to the predecessor. Also, the top-end model gets the brand-new 6nm V3 imaging chipset. It allows the phone to easily handle 4K movie portrait video processing and recording.
As for the vivo X100, it utilizes a custom 50MP IMX920 as the primary sensor. It has an f/1.57 aperture, accompanied by a 64MP telephoto sensor. This 1/2-inch telephoto camera can offer 3x zoom and features OIS for capturing stable videos and images. The phone also has a 50MP ultrawide lens. All three lenses have a T* lens coating.
RAM, Storage, and Battery of the vivo X100 Phones
To make the Dimensity 9300 inside the vivo X100 devices offer its best performance, vivo paired it up with up to 16GB of LPDDR5T RAM. Besides, the two phones come with up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, offering plenty of capacity to handle all the crisp videos and photos taken by the camera setup of the devices.
The battery department of the vivo X100 also saw an upgrade over the vivo X90 series. While the predecessors maxed out at 4870mAh, the X100 comes with a 5000mAh cell. And the X100 Pro brings a much larger 5400mAh cell.
When it comes to charging speeds, the vivo X100 can charge at 120W in the wired mode, while the X100 Pro can charge at 100W.
Other Highlights of the vivo X100 Series
Both the new vivo X100 smartphones feature IP68 water and dust-resistance rating. They also come with WiFi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and the IR blasters. As for the software, the phones boot on Android 14 with OriginOS 4 on top.
