In the past, users would have to deal with certain bugs, but now, these can be easily fixed with updates. Windows 11, as Microsoft’s latest and most advanced OS is constantly being updated with new features, but it is not totally free from bugs. Today, Microsoft has acknowledged a strange printer bug in Windows 11.

A Comprehensive Description About Windows 11’s Printer Bug

The printer bug detected by Microsoft is causing issues with the Print Spooler Service, printer drivers, and printer queues. Some time ago, users reported that non-HP devices running Win10 and Win11 systems would automatically install HP Smart apps through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft has now confirmed the issue, along with an issue where “printer names and icons may change automatically.”

According to Microsoft, the bug may cause the following issues:

  • Some Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices automatically install the HP Smart app.
  • Regardless of the printer manufacturer, the printers are renamed HP printers. Most are named HP LaserJet M101-M106, and the printer icon may also change.
  • Double-clicking on the printer displays the on-screen error message “No tasks available for this page.”

As for the bug that changes the printer name, this is the only thing it does. Microsoft said that the bug does not affect the normal use of the printer. Microsoft also noted that since these symptoms are related to the automatic installation of HP Smart, Windows devices that cannot access the Microsoft Store are not expected to be affected by these issues. But unfortunately, Microsoft did not mention any workaround or temporary fix. Microsoft only said it is probing the issue with its partners and will provide an update as more information becomes available.
