Samsung’s One UI Watch 5 update premiered with the Galaxy Watch 6 series earlier this year and gradually extended to the Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 lineups. Unfortunately, older smartwatches running Tizen OS won’t receive this update. On a positive note, Samsung confirmed a few months ago that the Galaxy Watch 3 and Active 2 would get some of the latest watch faces.
Now, the moment has arrived, at least for the Galaxy Watch 3. A new update is being rolled out, introducing two new watch faces inspired by the latest version of One UI: Stretched Time and Perpetual.
The update comes with firmware versions R840XXU1DWK2 / R850XXU1DWK2 and is currently being distributed in Europe. Notably, the Tizen OS remains unchanged at version 5.5.0.2.
Feature Update for Galaxy Watch 3 May End Here
The new watch faces, Stretched Time and Perpetual haven’t been observed on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 yet. However, it’s anticipated that they will be included, possibly with the next firmware update for the device.
Gizchina News of the week
The Galaxy Watch Active 2 and Galaxy Watch 3 have aged gracefully, yet they are aging. While Samsung committed to supporting them for at least three years, time is catching up. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 was introduced in 2019, and the Watch 3 followed a year later.
The addition of these two watches faces from One UI Watch 5 could potentially be the last features these older smartwatches receive. However, we won’t have certainty until the Galaxy Watch 7 lineup arrives next year.
Simple Steps to Update Galaxy Watch 3
For those looking to update the Galaxy Watch 3, the process involves opening the Samsung Wearable app on the connected phone, navigating to “Watch settings,” selecting “Watch software update,” and tapping “Download and install.”
Usually, updating smartwatches take some time and of course, consumes more power. Before running an update on your Galaxy Watch, ensure that you have stable internet connection. Also remember to charge the watch to at least, 50% battery before beginning the update process. Better still, keep it on charge while installing the update.
