The upcoming Motorola Moto G Play (2023) unveiled last December is about to get its successor. As you can expect, the new smartphone will simply change the year and will be dubbed Moto G Play (2024). Thanks to new leaks we have the phone’s design and specifications. A new set of renders from OnLeaks and SMARTmania confirms the phone’s design aspects. The specifications are also out revealing more about this budget smartphone. In this article, we will describe the phone’s design and some of its key specifications.
Design Renders
The Motorola Moto G Play (2024) is equipped with a center-aligned punch-hole display. As usual in the mid-range category, the phone has thin bezels on the sides and a thick chin at the bottom part. Moving around to the back, there is a rectangular camera bump with two circles. Only one houses a camera, as the other stands for the LED flash. It’s just one camera which is rather unusual for today’s standards. For comparison, the Moto G Play (2023) had three cameras.
The Moto G Play (2024) has flat frames, with the volume button and power key on the right side. The SIM Slot sits on the left portion of the phone. The power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner which confirms this is an LCD screen. The phone has a USB Type-C port at the bottom, flanked by a microphone and speaker, with a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top’s part.
Moto G Play (2024) Specifications
The source also confirms some of the phone specifications. Under the hood, the Motorola Moto G Play (2024) will be powered by one of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets. For now, it’s unclear if it will come with 5G connectivity. The list of possibilities is fairly large when we don’t know the connectivity standard it will support. It could be one of the Snapdragon 600 series chips, or the 4 Gen 1 or 6 Gen 1 if it has 5G connectivity. The phone will come with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable storage. We expect other variants to emerge as well.
Gizchina News of the week
The Moto G Play (2024) will be equipped with a 6.5-inch Full HD+ 90 Hz LCD screen with a 5,000 mAh battery and 15W charging. The primary camera on the rear will use a 50 MP sensor. There won’t be macro, depth, or ultrawide shooters in this phone. It’s a strange decision from Motorola now that most smartphones have at least two cameras. Perhaps, it’s a measure to reduce the price of the smartphone. There will be a selfie camera with an 8 MP shooter.
The Moto G Play (2024) will be sold in multiple colorways. The one in the leaked render is the Sapphire Blue version. We also expect a simple black color to complete the package. The smartphone will cost about $169 in the US and will go official in the next month.
Moto G 5G (2024)
It is worth noting that besides the Moto G Play (2024), Motorola is also working on a vanilla smartphone with 5G connectivity. It also had its design revealed through leaked renders a few weeks ago. This one should be priced higher than the G Play (2024). The device has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD screen with a Dual-Camera setup. Unlike the G Play, the 5G model will have two cameras. The phone will also have a punch-hole camera and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Moving around to the back, the phone has the same design language but two cameras. There is also an LED flash helper inside the camera island. At the back, the phone also sports the iconic Motorola Logo.
Considering the timing of these leaks, we would not be surprised to see the Moto G 5G (2024) and Moto G Play (2024) being launched at the same time. They will be joined by other variants and Moto G series phones later on like the Moto G Stylus (2024) and the upcoming Moto G04. We expect Motorola to start the marketing campaign by the next month.
