Great Accessories for the PlayStation 5

DualSense Edge

The PlayStation 5 launched at the end of 2020 marking the debut of a new generation for Sony players. Three years have passed and the console already has an established market with a growing list of games. Sony also built a whole ecosystem with multiple products that can improve your gaming experience. Since its launch, the PS5 has had a wide range of accessories that further enhance the gaming experience. While games are still the essence of the console, the accessories can improve your experience with these games. From controllers to expanded storage, many accessories can help you to enjoy the console. Through this article, we will list some of the best accessories to enhance your gaming experience. (Via).

Great Accessories to Enhance Your Experience with the PlayStation 5

Since its launch, the PlayStation 5 has been receiving multiple accessories that aim to improve the experience of gamers. Some of these accessories are specially crafted for the PS5 hardware and come to boost the experience of games. From enhanced controllers to charging stations, and headphones, they aim to make your experience with the new generation much more enjoyable. Below you will find some of the hottest accessories available for the PlayStation 5.

DualSense Edge

1 – DualSense Edge

The PlayStation 5 revamped the way players interact with games with the introduction of the Dual Sense. The new controller comes with adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. The adaptive triggers are tweaked by game developers to deliver a more immersive experience on certain games. In Resident Evil 4 Remake, for example, the game will offer a different feeling depending on the weapon you use. The triggers will be lighter when you’re shooting a handgun, and heavier when you’re using the Shotgun.

The Dual Sense already stands as an advanced controller in comparison to the old Dual Shock. However, Sony decided to launch a “professional-like” controller dubbed Dual Sense Edge. If you want the best experience with the PlayStation 5, this is probably an accessory that you will want to have. Since the console only comes with one controller, you may want to grab an additional controller for co-op or to switch when one needs to charge. Then this might be a good opportunity to grab a Dual Sense Edge.

Edge Features

The Dual Sense Edge brings all the features found within a standard DualSense controller. However, it expands the experience with additional back paddles for more customization options in controls. For example, in Fortnite, you can use one of the back paddles to jump. So you can jump, aim, and shoot. Something that is not easily possible with conventional controllers. Besides the back paddles, the Dual Sense Edge also offers swappable parts for easier repairs and comfort. It costs more than the default controller, but once you get used to it, you won’t easily go back to the default.

The DualSense Edge will work straight out of the box with any PS5 game you’re after. As we’ve said above, several also adopt features specifically designed for the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers it provides. Since it’s a Bluetooth controller, you can also take advantage of it on PC games and even on mobile devices via Bluetooth.

2 – PowerA Twin Charging Station

Unfortunately, Sony didn’t make wonders with the battery life of the Dual Sense. The new controller comes with a set of new advanced features, but unfortunately, the battery doesn’t follow all the advancements to make it last much more than one Dual Shock 4 used to last. It’s not a terrible battery life, but it could be much better. Thankfully, you can always plug your controller in between sessions. Using the standard cable to charge the phone can be an issue sometimes as you can easily forget how to charge it.

The PowerA Charging dock is one of the default accessories that make the charging process more seamless. It brings a convenient holder and uses the bottom port of the controller to charge two controllers. Once you end one gaming session, you just need to place the controller in the dock and it will take just a few hours to charge. If you have two controllers, it’s even more useful. The charging dock also helps to keep a more organized setup without cables connected to the console.

3 – Pulse 3D wireless headset

In the PS4 Generation, Sony offered the Sony gold headsets. With the PS5, Sony introduced the 3D audio within the console. To show exactly what the console is capable of in terms of audio, it offers the Pulse 3D Wireless headset. The headset has been fine-tuned for 3D audio, giving users an immersive and realistic audio experience while playing. The Pulse 3D headphones also have plush and comfortable ear cups and an inner band to improve stability while you wear them.

For online gamers, the Pulse 3D headset has discreet dual hidden microphones for clear audio without a boom mic jutting from the headset. For $100, the headset is a great deal that delivers and improves the audio experience for players who enjoy using headsets.
The Pulse 3D Wireless Headset comes with noise-canceling microphones, providing crystal-clear communication between you and your team in multiplayer games. The built-in microphone is efficient, although it could enjoy a little more tuning. However, considering the price that’s something that we can let pass.

4 – PS5 Remote Controller

This might not be the greatest accessory to boost your gaming experience. But if you use the console for more besides gaming, it’s a great addition. The PS5 is a game console, but it can also be a central media hub for many players who lack smart TVs and see media content through the console. Users can enjoy Netflix, YouTube, and other popular streaming services with the console. If that is your case, you will probably enjoy the PS5 media remote. It has typical play/pause options as well as dedicated buttons for major streaming services.

It also has a built-in IR transmitter that allows you t adjust audio and power on compatible TVs, potentially making it a universal controller. The console has curved all-white aesthetics to meet the console’s design language.

5 – HD Camera

Now that Streaming is becoming popular with the rise of Twitch and many other platforms, some players don’t need a super-advanced setup to share their gameplay. That’s why Sony launched its HD camera for the PlayStation 5 with a 1080p image and wide-angle lens. It allows PS5 players to easily stream their gameplay at a high quality. Viewers will be able to enjoy the gameplay and see your entire setup with a high quality.

The camera also has a built-in stand that lets you adjust the angle to get the right look. There are also background removal tools that help cut out the background entirely if you have a green screen. For $60 it’s a good accessory, especially if you like to stream your gameplay sessions. It’s a much more functional camera than the average webcam. Also, its white/black design perfectly matches the colors of the console and its design language, making it look like something native.

6 – PCIe Gen 4 SSDs

The PS5 SSD storage is certainly one of the main selling points of the new generation. The super-fast SSD allows games to load much faster than they used to do with past console generations. However, faster storage is also costlier, and Sony had to make some sacrifices. While the PS5 SSD is the fastest of its kind, it delivers only 825 GB to users. Out of this storage, there is a portion taken by the OS itself. With games getting bigger and bigger, it may be hard to manage this storage. Sony has developed the Kraken system which makes an efficient job of compressing games. However, for some cases that may not be enough.

PlayStation 5

Plugging an external drive isn’t enough to extend the Storage of the PS5 due to its high requisites of memory speed. You can put any SATA drive to load PS4 games, but for PS5 games you will need a fast SSD. Thankfully, there is a slot that supports PCIe Gen 4 SSDs with fast storage. When the PS5 launched, these SSDs were brand-new and super expensive. However, now that three years have passed, it’s easier to find these SSDs at more acceptable prices.

If you want to download all your next-gen games and play seamlessly without limitations, we strongly recommend you grab a good PCIe Gen 4 SSD to extend the storage. Just make sure to grab one with a heat sink, or buy it separately. Sony recommends users use only SSDs with heat sinks. Fortunately, separate heat sinks for SSDs are also cheap.

7 – PS VR2

The PS VR2 launched earlier this year for all gamers who want to experience the “new generation” of Sony games made for VR. The console supports a set of new VR games, and there are some Sony-exclusive games made for this accessory like Horizon Call of the Mountain. One time that it still requires a PlayStation 5, we consider this an accessory that allows you to play VR games.

Don’t let me be wrong, but this is a niche product. Not all players are interested in VR games in their current state. And also, the hefty price is not very inviting for standard PlayStation 5 players. Despite the costlier approach, this is still one of the most advanced accessories for the PS5. It’s a completely new system rather than an add-on. You will be spending serious cash, but you will also get a new world of games and experiences. The PS VR2 brings an array of technology that is rare among the best VR headsets on the market at this pricing point.

PlayStation 5

The PSVR 2 takes the console’s contours and curves into its design. It has a dome-shaped main panel and circular controller grips. It’s a decent device with excellent build quality. It has eye-tracking enabled foveated rendering which gives it the ability to bring the objects you’re looking at into focus. It also has a crisp OLED display running at 120 Hz, and haptic feedback built into the headband.

The PS VR2 costs about $549 which is more than a PS5. While the amount of technology here can challenge other $1000 VR headsets, this is still a strong investment for PS5 players.

8 – PlayStation Portal

We end this list with the latest PlayStation Portal. This is one of the latest accessories to be released by Sony, and perhaps the most controversial. The PS VR2 is a costlier accessory, but certainly adds more to the experience. The PlayStation Portal is a Dual Sense with a screen attached.

PlayStation 5

It allows you to play remotely your PS5 through the Wi-Fi Network. You can use it to keep playing when the TV is used, or when you want to move to other places at your home. It costs $199 and serves exclusively for remote play on PS5. It could be better if it had support for mobile networks, but you will be limited to playing via Wi-Fi.

Conclusion – Good Accessories for PlayStation 5 Experience

With just three years of availability, the PS5 still has a long road ahead. We expect Sony to keep launching accessories to further improve the experience of players. Some will certainly add value while others may be just cashgrabbers. In either case, it’s up to players to judge what they need and what will seriously improve their experience. The list here will help you to find and decide which accessories are good to improve your gaming setup.
