Honor MagicOS 8.0 Brings Intent-driven, On-device AI

Honor has unveiled the next-gen operating system for its device lineup. Called the Honor MagicOS 8.0, the new operating system is based on Android 14. However, the upgrade extends beyond just the Android version.

In addition, MagicOS 8.0 incorporates AI capabilities at the platform level. It also introduces industry-first intent-based user interface (IUI). These make the new operating system capable of delivering a more personalized, intuitive, and secure user experience.

AI Enhancements in the Honor MagicOS 8.0

The Honor MagicOS 8.0 packs comprehensive AI enhancements across four key domains. Among these domains are performance, smart connectivity, security and privacy, and visual aesthetics. But it’s the MagicLM that takes center stage.

As the name kind of gives it away, MagicLM is Honor’s proprietary on-device large language model. It comes with a staggering seven billion parameters. Honor says it makes the MagicOS 8.0 capable of deciphering user intentions. The company also claims that the LLM has a remarkable level of accuracy.

Moreover, the MagicLM in MagicOS 8.0 brings a human-centric experience. It can act like a versatile AI companion, offering users to do many things with simple commands. Users can access features such as daily planner templates in seconds. It’s more than the smart assistants you find in Android smartphones.

MagicLM on MagicOS 8.0 goes beyond the ordinary by taking full advantage of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Another important aspect is the device handles all the data. With this, MagicLM can deliver the highest level of privacy.

Industry-first IUI and Magic Portal for Better Interactions

Honor wants to redefine human-device communication with industry-first IUI in MagicOS 8.0. At the core, it eliminates the limitations of text-based commands and graphical interfaces. IUI proactively anticipates what the users need by interpreting:

  • Gestures.
  • Images.
  • Language.
  • Eye movements and more.

With this, Honor made MagicOS 8.0 more capable of understanding the intent of the users and offering the desired services better and faster. The company says it will streamline user operations and make the experience more convenient for the users.

Intent driven interactions of Honor MagicOS 8.0

That’s not all! MagicOS 8.0 also brings Magic Portal. It’s an intent-based shortcut recommendation feature. With it, users can switch and access different services of apps and devices. Honor hints that all that it requires is a simple swipe to hop from maps to ride-sharing apps. The OS will suggest a quick shortcut for the switch.

During the launch event, the company showcased collaborative MagicLM-integrated experiences. This demo relied on a hybrid AI model, which highlighted partners such as Baidu and Amap.

Seamless Connected Experience With Honor MagicOS 8.0

The Honor MagicOS 8.0 has also introduced a better MagicRing. It is one of the four core technologies present in the OS. As the company says, the tech is now more capable of offering a streamlined experience.

MagicRing now has support for point-to-point and fully connected networks. This enables a seamless connected experience with 25% better efficiency and 500% improved speed. The tech also has support for eight transmission channels. It allows a more natural experience with peripherals.

customization features

For example, with it, you can use a keyboard and mouse across different devices with MagicOS 8.0. Moreover, the enhanced MagicRing makes file sharing, app windows, calls, and notifications flow through the devices. MagicRing now has support for more devices, which includes vehicles, printers, and smartwatches.

In short, it is more intelligent than before. And with that, it brings more convenient features for a seamless experience.

A Greater Focus on User Privacy

User privacy remains paramount for Honor. MagicOS 8.0 introduces system-wide Parallel Spaces. This offers enhanced data segregation. For example, images and files gets loaded into the private space through Magic Portal.

MagicOS 8.0 also brings a shake-to-block ads feature. It puts an end to intrusive pop-ups. With on-device AI processing, again, your data stays on your device, ensuring peace of mind while you enjoy the OS.
