Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra may seem the same as the S23 Ultra, but there are a good number of changes. While the biggest upgrade may seem to be the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Samsung has also implemented the best possible front protection glass from Corning. Called Gorilla Glass Armor, it’s a proper step up from last year’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
I’ve already described in an in-depth discussion on Gorilla Glass Armor before that it brings several upgrades. Among them are better durability and improved anti-reflective performance. Its claim to reduce reflections was recently tested in a real-world scenario. And it did really well. Now, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has undergone a scratch test.
How Did the Gorilla Glass Armor of Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Perform?
As the video attached below shows, this scratch test involves putting the Gorilla Glass Armor against Mohs’s Hardness Test Kit. If you’re unaware, this kit has a number of picks that are each in different hardness values. You can read more about the test kit from this link.
Gizchina News of the week
Nonetheless, most of the flagship phones so far scratch at level 6, with deeper grooves at level 7. But the Galaxy S24 Ultra scratches at level 7, with deeper grooves at level 8. As the video attached above shows, the scratches at level 7 are very minor. This is a significant improvement over the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 of S23 Ultra.
The good news is that the more affordable Galaxy S24 and S24+ should also enjoy the same scratch resistance. After all, the entire lineup comes with the new Gorilla Glass Armor. Now, if you’re wondering what this test means for real-world usage, it means worry-free carrying of the phone in your pocket.
Even if you have keys, coins, or pocket dust, there shouldn’t be any visible scratches on the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Also, the phone’s screen should remain in pristine condition even after prolonged usage under moderate care. Still, I would recommend using a screen protector.
