Motorola is gearing up to introduce a new Motorola Edge 50 Pro smartphone. The device will launch in India via Flipkart on April 3. The leaks have been intensifying in the past few days while the company keeps pushing teasers across the internet. While some rumors have been pointing the phone to come with the recently released Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, new evidence comes to bury these optimistic rumors. The Motorola Edge 50 Pro will be a toned-down flagship with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
Motorola Edge 50 Pro is equipped with Snapdragon 7 Gen 3
The Edge 50 Pro appeared on the Geekbench website with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. While this is still a solid chipset compared to regular mid-range CPUs, it is some miles below the newly-released Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. This also means the Motorola Edge 50 Pro won’t be competing with other flagships with Snapdragon 8 chips. The phone managed a single-score of 1,097 and a multi-core score of 3,114 cores.
Gizchina News of the week
One interesting fact is that Motorola has been teasing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in China, perhaps for the Motorola X50 Ultra. Now, with the new Geekbench benchmark, we can discard the Motorola Edge 50 Pro as a rebranded X50 Ultra.
The Edge 50 Pro appeared in the benchmark with 12 GB of RAM. We assume that this is just one of the possible configurations. It also had Android 14, but that’s hardly a surprise at this point. Through the smartphone’s microsite, Motorola confirmed it has a 6.7-inch 1.5K pOLED display with a 144 Hz refresh rate. The panel is “validated by Pantone” with 2,000 nits of peak brightness. It has an embedded fingerprint scanner and a 50 MP main rear camera.
In terms of design, the Edge 50 Pro is a slim smartphone with curved edges. The device has a flat display and a center-aligned punch-hole camera. It will sell in three distinct color options: Black, Purple, and White color. The latter has a vegan leather finish.
