YouTube Music, which is Google’s own music streaming service, has taken a big step in making offline listening more accessible. It now allows desktop web users to download their favorite music and listen to them without needing an internet connection.
Previously, YouTube Music only allowed offline listening through the mobile app. But with this change, offline listening has made its way to the desktop app counterpart. Users can even save an entire playlist for convenient internet-free listening.
The feature was available on the mobile app for a long time. However, as YouTube Music doesn’t have a dedicated app like mobile, it took Google some time to implement it on the web app.
More About the Offline Listening Feature of YouTube Music on Desktop
YouTube has been testing out this offline listening feature on desktops for a while. However, only a small number of users were part of the testing phase. The feature seems to be rolling out to more users now. Of course, the rollout appears to be in phases. That means you may not have the feature yet.

But some users have already been notified with the “New! Download music to listen offline” message. If you see it, you can download your favorite tracks for offline listening on YouTube Music on your desktop. For those wondering, the message appears beside the Library tab on the web app.
Saving your favorite on YouTube Music for the desktop version is simple. You just need to navigate to the song’s page or an album and click the download button. It should be between the “Save to library” and the three-dot menu button.
Just like on the mobile app, all the songs that you download will go to the “Downloads” tab. It’s within your library, and there are filters that allow you to sort by songs, podcasts, albums, or playlists. But do note that offline downloads on the desktop web app will count towards 10-device download limit of YouTube Music.
