This year, Samsung seems focused on releasing products under the FE branding. Previously, we wrote about the leaks surrounding the Galaxy Z Fold FE and Z Flip FE. Now, there is a latest report suggesting that there will also be a Galaxy Watch FE for this year. Samsung has been using the FE branding for its Galaxy S-series smartphones. But now it seems like the other flagship products will also get a cheaper version with the FE moniker. Let’s check out what we know so far about the Galaxy Watch FE.
The report from AndroidHeadlines reveals that the Galaxy Watch FE will be launched in different markets. The report identifies three model numbers for the upcoming watch: SM-R866F for global markets, SM-R866U for the U.S., and SM-R866N for Korea. Hence, we expect the watch to have a wide international release. The model numbers surfacing online are a big hint that the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE is indeed coming, and hence we are interested to see what it will bring. Until more details regarding the smartwatch are disclosed, we have some interesting pieces of information revealing what to expect from the Watch FE.
What to expect from the Galaxy Watch FE?
Gizchina News of the week
Today’s report is not the only one suggesting an affordable Samsung Galaxy smartwatch. A previous report (via @rquandt) also suggested Samsung is working on bringing Galaxy Watch 4 with a 2024 rebranding. To recall, the Galaxy Watch 4 was launched in 2021. The initial reports hinted that we may get the Galaxy Watch 4 (2024). But now it seems like it will come out as the Galaxy Watch FE instead.
Also, the Galaxy Watch 4 has the model number SM-R860F. It is quite similar to the Watch FE’s model number SM-R866F. The similarity to the Watch 4 model number hints at a potential feature carry-over, possibly body composition, blood pressure, ECG, and more. As someone who relies on my smartwatch for fitness tracking, I’m especially curious if the FE cuts any health sensors to lower the price.
Samsung’s strategy for FE branding
With the FE branding, Samsung will be aiming at a budget-friendly market. It is similar to Apple’s strategy with SE branding. This strategy could work especially if Samsung also reveals their more FE devices making a complete ecosystem. There will still be the flagship-level Galaxy Watch 7, while the Watch FE targets the budget-friendly market. That said, there are multiple products that we expect this year under the FE branding including the Galaxy Z Flip FE and Z Fold FE. With this latest report of Galaxy Watch FE’s model numbers, we are confident that Samsung is going to be focusing on FE products in 2024.
