The Asus ROG Ally, launched in June last year, has had a great run. It brought a proper mobile solution that allowed gamers to play their favorite titles anywhere and everywhere. However, it has been a year since the last gaming handheld from Asus, and the company has confirmed that the new one is coming soon.
More specifically, the next handheld gaming PC from Asus, called the ROG Ally X, will be dropping on June 2, which is over the horizon. While the company hasn’t fully unveiled the device yet, it has confirmed what to expect from the upcoming handheld.
The Upcoming Asus ROG Ally X Will Be A Proper Upgrade
Asus broke the news about the ROG Ally X through the ROG Pulse broadcast. In this announcement, the company debunked some rumors that were popping up about the next gaming handheld. Unlike the previous reports, it won’t be called ROG Ally 2. Instead, it has the “X” naming to signify that the handheld gaming PC is an improved version of the current one.

Before you ask, no, it’s not a refresh of the Asus ROG Ally with some new features. Instead, it’s more about giving enthusiasts what they wanted from the first gaming handheld. That includes some improvements, such as higher storage, RAM, and battery life.
In an interview with The Verge, Asus SVP Shawn Yen confirmed that the battery life increase will be substantial. If you’re looking for a number, the SVP says that it’s more than a 40% increase. To fill you in, the Asus ROG Ally has a 40 Wh battery, and it promises up to four hours of gameplay.
Besides that, Asus confirmed that there will be a couple of design tweaks on the ROG Ally X. The upcoming gaming handheld will also be resolving the SD card issue that the current one has. On the inside, it could come with M.2 2280 SSD support. However, it will still come with the Ryzen Z1 Extreme that the original came with. But that’s not an issue, as it is already considered to be a very capable gaming processor.
