In his words, the next console is made to be “a reference device for manufacturers.” The leaker gave the example of Surface Pro 11, which is a reference device for AI PCs. Similarly, the leaker is trying to say that the next-gen console will be played as a lead for other handhelds. The leaker stated that the next Xbox console will be a reference for products like ROG Ally, a popular handheld console. This means that the next-gen Xbox might end up being a handheld device.
Microsoft can opt for a hybrid approach, similar to Nintendo Switch. Gamers have shown a growing interest in hybrid and portable gaming systems, as evidenced by the success of the Nintendo Switch and the rising popularity of Steam Deck. Handheld consoles are not just a passing trend; they represent a shift in how users consume gaming content, favoring flexibility and mobility.
